I left banking eight years ago and even then, a compensation system for such errors had become fairly accepted.
I would try it. Put your complaint, clearly and concisely, in writing, and see what happens.
If you follow their complaints system to its end and they do not provide a satisfactory solution, then, once you have a letter from them stating that they are prepared to take it no further, you can then approach the Banking Ombusdman to look at the matter. but I doubt a set-up complaint would have to go that far.
