    Re: company gone bust

Thanks for your comments maxstream, the fitter is also the part owner of the company and he was not going to tell us they had gone bust and only admitted it when we showed him evidence. we have also already paid them a thousand pound ( I KNOW SILLY MISTAKE) .The thing that gets me is we sent a friend in to enquire about windows and the other partner said the were only moving premises. We know this is not true so why do they have to tell lies.

You should not pay cash in these circumstances. If they do fit the windows next week, you should ask for a written guarantee after they'd fitted the windows and I would also ask them to wait until you get the work certificated before you pay the full balance (you may ask to pay half now, half later). If you are certain that the company has gone bust, you may consider paying the workmen for fitting the windows or you may write a cheque payable to the company.

The guarantee isn't worth that much whether the company is bust or not but you should certainly make sure that the job has been done properly before paying everything - even if this means waiting for the next rain - but it is likely that you will need to get the work certificated by your council anyway.

    company gone bust

Hi, please could anybody advice me on what to do? we have recently paid a deposit £1000 for windows and doors to be fitted and the company have just gone bust, after doing a lot of searching we have managed to find them and they have assured us they will be fitting them this coming monday and tuesday, they was not going to tell us they had gone bust but we found out by doing lots of investigating, now we have to give them the benefit of the doubt and trust that they will come and fit them has said, our problem is that they are wanting cash of a further £1000 when the job is completed but how do we stand has they can not give the recommended guarantees when they are no longer trading, by the way we have got the frames at our home and just waiting for them to fetch the glass, my husband insisted on having the frames in case the company that owns the premisesthey traded from come and change the locks. thanks for looking at my thread and any advice would be appreciated.
