Are you a member of any of the Triumph clubs ? If you are have a look in the magazines as you'll find there are lots of people advertising classic insurance and there will be at least one that will give you a discount for being a club member. We've got two triumphs (TR4 and TR3a) insured with Footman James who have given us a decent price (but we are both much older than you) and on unlimited mileage policies. Others to try are Towergate (advert specifically mentions young drivers), Heritage and Richard Egger. We've found that the mainstream firms don't understand classics and have always got a better deal with the specialist ones.

My last classic was an '81 Cadillac Eldorado with the 5.7 litre Diesel engine which was put into many GM cars in the last fuel crisis. I have just left the UK 7 months ago and am now travelling so I will probably just buy and sell cars as needed as renting cars is getting too expensive. I now have the same problem with high cost insurance as I spend less than 6 months in any country.

Enjoy those cars, better than driving a Eurobox....

Sounds great my friend, what do you own now? yeah thats the one a 1998cc straight six on a vitesse gearbox 27000miles from new £4000 and £708 Comp Insurance, i am currently restoring a childhood fantasy car at the moment, sad i know a 1987 Renault 5 GT only 43000 miles on the clock, which im sure will bring a good asking price.

Nice looking motor, does the GT6 have the 2 litre Triumph Vitesse engine? My first decent classic was the 1965 Austin Westminster (big saloon with 2912cc straight six) £100 for the car and £45 for fully comp classic insurance in 1982.

Re: Classic car cover for younger drivers?

Cheers, i think i best do that because the only cars i have are classic above 20 years old but high insurance groups which is why i have payed large amounts through normal insurers i am 20 in november and i have one years no claims, but this seems to matter not, either way its still way over the odds im just looking into more options for cover as i apreciate the cars i use but am fed up of insurance firms looking down their nose at me, if i were a boy racer i would be driving something more modern and boyracer like....not a 1973 Triumph GT6??

You have already answered your own question there Alex.

There used to be a minimum age of 25 for Classic Car Insurance many years ago but I did get a policy at the ripe old age of 23. I would imagine you could get cover at 21 with a clean licence and some NCD but why not send emails to the car clubs who may be able to help you. They will probably have details of schemes that high street brokers don't have on their books.

Good luck with your Classic Car....

Classic car cover for younger drivers?

Just a general question for you
Do you know of any brokers/companys who cover under 19 year olds on classic car insurance. May be asking to much buy why not, why do young drivers always suffer because of boy racers?
