    Claiming on your home insurance

Hey people i'm a new member with a problem.

About a year ago i claimed on my home contents insurance when i accidentally dropped my laptop and broke the Lcd screen. The company kicked up a fuss about how it could not have happened by dropping your laptop etc.

A couple of months later i recieved a new refurbished laptop (around november last year)

So this morning after finnishing my ironing and getting ready to go back to uni, i dropped my laptop onto the laminate flooring and im stuck in the same situation as last year.

I'm a little concerned about the insurance company thinking i'm scamming them as it's the second time in a year cycle, has anyone got any tips on how i can go about claiming without being made to look like it's a dodgy deal?

Sorry if it's all jibberish but thanks for your time anyway.

    Brad

Hey --- accidents happen and if we were able to time them....then they would not be accidents. !!!

Explain in the most open and honest way you can and reconstruct the accident by drawing diagrams if necessary, they can either believe you or not.....their choice. However to refuse to pay they have to show beyond doubt that you are not telling the truth.

You may want to alternatively consider the cost of this second laptop against the effect it is going to have on your future premiums and the possibility they may decide to refuse to cover for further years, if they consider you to be a repeat high risk customer. ?

When you claimed for the first laptop did your insurance company charge you an excess?

Did they replace your laptop like for like or give you vouchers to spend at currys?

Accidents do happen and I'm sure they appreciate this but as conman advised next year they may exclude your laptop from the policy or increase your premium?

Hi, i am a new member too. You see what the fact is, you have a insurance policy and thats for real deal, why feel shy or be scared to contact too ? I mean like you break your laptop a 100 times, get to them 100 times, that what they are their for, have they mentioned the number of time you can excess to them ? I hope not, thus go for it.

Be careful. I've been insured with the same company (buildings and contents) for many years with few claims but last year had a horrendous series of claims over a one month period. We got very heavy winds and rain which came through a damaged slate in the roof causing ceiling damage in the hall; we had a leaking hot water tank upstairs which ruined the ceiling in a bathroom downstairs; there was another leak from a crack in the basin of a shower in the upstairs bathroom which needed fixing; somebody broke a doubled glazed window by firing a pellet gun at it! All of that occurred within a month but was totally genuine! My insurance company not only increased the premium but stuck an excess of £1000 on any claim which effectively means I can't claim for anything until it is reviewed after 3 years!

I would recommend shopping around for a new company!?
