    Claiming for Accidental Damage

    Hello,

A few days ago my guitar was knocked over and picked up 4 nasty dings in the paint work. I take a lot of care with my guitar to prevent it from picking up these dings and scrapes, making sure its always safe (obviously Ive not done a good job!). I spoke to a luthier about the problem and he said there was no other option but to get a new paintjob which costs around £200-£300 as repainting the areas of the dings would only make them stand out more. The guitar is on the house insurance (not sure what the excess is) and I was wondering if this is something they would pay out for and if I am to make a claim, what I need in terms of a quote or even pictures of the dings themselves.

As I am only 15, Ive obviously not had that much experience with insurance claims and I would love some advice as I understand Insurance Companies aren't the most willing of people to part with their money.

    Thank you!

Hi --- Get quite a few good quality digital photo's of the damage along with your initial receipt for the guitar when it was bought, you will also need this quotation for the damage in writing from the reputable repairer.

Once you have those, I presume that you're intending claiming on your Parents house contents insurance cover, if so it will need your Parent to contact their insurer and ask for the necessary claim form or to start the claim procedure.

You would be wise to investigate the excess on your policy first before making any claim, as the amount of excess plus the effect on future years policies, may make placing any claim unworthwhile. !
