    Re: Claiming for a computer

I had a lightening strike which fried my motherboard, and Norwich Union replaced the CPU unit (and took the old one away - don't forget to wipe or remove your hard disk if they do this).

Not the best experience claim wise, lots of calls to India to my 'Claims Manager' who couldn't do much more than take messages.

Also found that having made a claim, it's almost impossible to switch to a new insurer on renewal because one of the questions asks you to confirm you have made no claim on the old policy for the last 3 years.

Might be worth thinking about not claiming at all depending on how much your getting back after paying the excess yourself.

I would hazard a guess at them replacing it. If it's a few years old it will probably be cheaper for them to just pay out for a new one rather than estimate repair costs.
