Cheapest way to get short-term car insurance

My car insurance is due for renewal on 26th May but I only want to insure my car until September as I intend to sell it over the summer before I move to London. I'm not intending to own a car once I start living in London. Given that most insurers seem to charge a substantial cancellation fee, what is the cheapest way to insure the car on a short-term basis? It is a 5 year old Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.4, 5 seater hatchback.

    Thanks

    Robbie

    Hi there,

Use eCar Insurance - see below

    Pay As You Go

Pay As You Go provides cover on a monthly basis for a monthly premium. You can purchase cover when you need it and switch it off when it is not required.

A renewal notice will be sent shortly before the expiry of the policy. If you would like the policy to continue for another month, we will renew it automatically and collect the monthly premium. If you would like to cancel your policy, you will need to go on-line to cancel the policy in "Your Account" on or before the expiry date.

    • Earn 1 years NCD for only 8 months' claim free cover.
    • Maximum NCD guaranteed for life.
    • The monthly rate you are quoted will be guaranteed for 8 months providing no changes are made.

    There website is www.ecarinsurance.co.uk

    See how you go.

    Good Luck

I certainly wouldn't insure a 5 year old Fiesta with eCar. Maybe a 10 year old Fiesta at a push! A lot of companies do 6 month policies but it's not simply 12/2 = price. Provident, Sabre etc.

Do the companies you recommend offer policies on a monthly basis then?? As that is how I read the query.. I am not aware of Provident or Sabre offering such a service having been insured with both in my time. I don't think the age of the car is relevant if you only want to be covered on a monthly basis so I am afraid I have to disagree with you Vicissitude!!!!

    Topbird,

Re-read the OP's comment: Ref: " I only want to insure my car until September "

Provident and Sabre can, and do, offer 3 and 6 month policies. I would only use a company that covered the vehicle on a monthly basis if I was intending to sell the vehicle between 1-3 months; and I certainly wouldn't recommend using such for a 5 year old vehicle. The age of the vehicle is very relevant as the value of a 5 year old Fiesta will be different to that of a 10 year old Fiesta, and eCar are not the best when it comes to service; which is why my recommendation for an alternative company occurred. I'm sure the OP will take both all suggestions into consideration.
