Re: changing address during mortgage application

    melysion:

Hi - I'm in the early stages of buying my first flat. I'm renting at the moment but will need to leave on 15th May. I'm going to stay temporarily with a friend but how might a change of address at this stage effect a mortgage application?

This will not worry the lenders too much. it is quite reasonable that you may not want to sign up for a new 6 month rental contract or that you have opted to leave your current rental property on a specific date. As long as the lenders have got a correspondence address they will be happy.

As Maxsteam suggested, as long as you keep your lender updated to the situation then there will not be a problem.

If you have only completed the AIP then make sure that you enter the new address on the application form for the lenders and make sure that you let the broker./bank know that your new/current address has changed from when you intitially completed the AIP.

Re: changing address during mortgage application

It will be best to contact the lender and give as much information as possible. Many application forms let you give both your current address and recent addresses.

Before moving out, you should contact the council and utility companies (water, gas, electricity, phone, etc) to tell them about the move and to provide final meter readings. It's possible that there will be a repayment due to you or you might owe some money. Either way, you should give your next address.

You should only pay what you owe. I'm sure that the council will be happy for you to keep paying at the current address but, unless you tell them about the move, they may ask you to pay at both old and new addresses.

If there will be anything important coming in the post, you can contact Royal Mail and (for a fee) they will forward your mail.

I have applied already and got a mortgage in principle. In early stages of getting all the data together for full application and valuation date.

I'm not even sure whether I should stop paying for council tax etc until its all gone though.

    any advice much appreciated!!
