Re: Change of accounts with RBS

    Hi thanks for this info

Am I to guess from your username your in the business - have sent a RD letter to head office complaints and started complaint with FSO.

Am hoping direct approach will resolve this asap - as Moorcroft are being pain in the backside!

to change an account to a packaged account you have to sign an illustrator and an account conversion form. it smells of a member of staff getting some cheeky sales points for upgrading a dormant account. ask for copies of these and when they can't prove them a call to rbs customer relations should prove quite fruitful

Re: Change of accounts with RBS

I'm going to look through my paperwork tonight; however they could well have changed the rules since your account switched, as i have a feeling you're older than i am.

Oh well, there goes my evening playing the PS3.

Yeah, the whole idea of the FOS is to give people a place to go after they've exhusted the companys internal complaints procedure. That's why the 8 week period. However, it's not a bad idea to contact them as well because they might give RBS a nudge to see what's happening after 8 weeks has elapsed. Remember to keep all correspandance from RBS, and send everything recorded delivery. Don't even bother with the telephone.

Re: Change of accounts with RBS

Have done all of the relevant letters to FSO and to RBS - will see what comes of them.

If you check p/work can you let me know what it says in T&C's as I think there would have been a clause to move to free banking after certain age - but I don't think they are allowed to move to fee paying without signature etc to agree to charges..

Interestingly and point to note is that I didn't think FSO could do anything until 8 weeks has passed, but they recorded the complaint, gave me a reference number, wrote a letter as well and also are sending me a letter to send to Moorcroft to get them to hold acct for the meantime. Not sure if anyone else knew this, I certainly didn't and I have been lurking around on this forum for the last 12 months ish.

    Will keep you updated

Re: Change of accounts with RBS

I think you have a right to complain. RBS should have picked up on the fact that no money was coming in or out of the account for 5 years, and should have taken steps to stop you from diving further into debt. I'd send a letter of complaint recorded delivery to them and see what they say. If they try a fob off with the usual "we tried to contact you..." blah, blah, then do a SAR to see if they're telling the truth.

Having said all that, i'm gonna check my R21 account now! Although i could've sworn they said they were changing mine into an Intrest paying current account that didn't charge!

Re: Change of accounts with RBS

Hi thanks for response, will try and answer what I can.

Statements were formerly delivered monthly from them. No correspondence from them, I did move house, but have the letter I sent to adivse this, and moved to banks to Natwest, which is one and the same company so they could have very easily found me.(Have inc copy of letter sent to advise address change to them). I did not believe that the account was closed - I said I know I should have closed it but was young and naive to the tricks they now pull, so I did not think I had closed it, just that I received statements for 12 months after stopping my salary with no changes to account and when I moved I just did not get anymore correspondence, but as it wasn't main account it didn't occur to me that I wasn't getting info and why.

I requested new copies of statements through Moorcroft, and they sent back, which is what made me realise what had happened. I have sent copies of these back to RBS for their reference, with the relevant bits highlighted.

Would you still request the Subject Access thing or wait and see what they come back with first as I have bank statements etc already? Which really tells me all I need to know - which is where the debt has come from and why.

In line with their complaints process I have advised that resolution for me would be have the charges removed and the account closed - do you think this is reasonable?

    Thanks

    frustratedagain:

can they change account without my consent from free banking to fee paying,

What you describe is definately "sharp practice" though the "technical" validity is probably covered in the Route 21 account terms and conditions since its an "up to age 21" account.

I am surprised that there has been no correspondence at all on any issue. What frequency of statements did you formerly have. Did the statements stop? Did you move address? If so when? What actions did you take which led you do believe that the Route 21 account was closed?

I would be suprised if you don't get the charges cancelled. One thing I would suggest you do is to make a £10 Subject Access Request of RBS requiring provision of all statements going back 6 years, all correspondence, call and issue logs, and any call transcripts or recordings which have been retained.

It only costs you £10, RBS a fortune to fulfill, and you should receive a lot of info which might let you see what has happened.

    Change of accounts with RBS

    Hi

After some guidance and despite extensive looking can't find this one (although I'm sure the more experienced will view this as a challenge!). Had an account with RBS, which I believed was closed, but had been dormant since 2004 IN CREDIT, albeit by £3.07.

August this year get letter from Moorcroft Debt Recovery, saying I owe RBS £314.96 as outstanding debt - usual pay within x days etc. Wrote back immediately asking for further info as knew nothing about it and could they provide evidence - statements etc.

Got letter back on Friday and found statements - turns out I was right. Account was Route 21 account and has been dormant since 2004 IN CREDIT. The debt has come from RBS moving the account after 12 months of no activity to a Royalties Account which charges a fee of £6.00 per month, which they have charged every month since, so from Sept 2005. They have then been charging me interest on this as the charges meant I was going overdrawn with no overdraft fee. So the full debt is account charges and interest on un-authorised overdraft.

Questions are - has anyone ever heard of this, can they change account without my consent from free banking to fee paying, even after the account has been dormant for 12 months, does this fall under the unfair charges everyone else is talking about or is this a standalone issue, do people think I stand a chance of getting this wiped out and account closed? (I'll even forgoe my £3.07 I was in credit if they will do this!)

I know I should have closed the account - but was young and did not know what sneaky tricks banks will pull! Have written letter to RBS Special Delivery, Moorcroft Debt with copy gone to RBS and FSO have given me reference and logged complaint as well - so all boxes ticked in terms of action to take but I am curious as to the route this may take.

    Any advice appreciated - thanks
