    Re: cash from banks

I do use on line banking but it is no help in getting cash.

a fencer quoted 500 for a fence this week - 100 off if I paid cash.

I guess this may be more norm in a " recession".

Also I need taxis and they seem reluctant to take cheques these days

It's certainly worth considering what can be done with online banking. It's also possible to print (but not sign) cheques with your computer printer.

Well, it is the safe method actually. To carry money is seem to be risky some times, in this case this is the good option.

    Re: cash from banks

The difference is that anyone who is so inclined can take a £20 note and spend it in the pub, at the off licence or with the local drug dealer. The same person could take a €20 note but it wouldn't be as much use to them.

Another important difference is that holiday money comes maybe once a year. If it becomes common knowledge that there's cash in the post every week, then the risk of things going wrong is much greater.

If cash gest stolen, it is very hard to trace although it's a little easier to suspect someone with pockets full of a foreign currency than someone with pounds in their pockets.

Unfortunately, these are the times that we live in.

local post office here in the country - no more

why will they send 200 foreign currencies and not sterling - I dont see the difference in terms of risk?

    Re: cash from banks

Unfortunately cash and the post do not go together. I got a special delivery package (i.e. something valuable) yesterday and it was correctly addressed to a house a mile away, not to me. If there's a post office closer than the bank, they may help.

How do I get cash. Ihave mnd and cant write cheques to pay gardener, windowcleaner, paper boy etc etc.

the nearets bank is 6 miles away, it may as well be on the moon.
