    Re: carhire and prepaid mastercards

I have a Prime prepaid card. It only has a 'pay as u go' option but thats fine for me as i only use it occasssionaly. Its fees are about the cheapest around and it is one of the cheapest to buy. When you buy the card however it is 'disposable' and u can't reuse it till you upgrade it through their website for £1.95. I used it for car hire once and they told me that some car hire companies stop prepaid cards but it should work at most of them. However you need to ensure you have at least 20% more than the hire fee on your card which the hire company will hold as a security (called padding).

I suggest you check out the website www.idtprime.com and also moneysupermarkets comparison list http://www.moneysupermarket.com/prepaidcards/CardsResults.asp?feature=Prepaid&Type=CreditCard.

The Bank Freedom Card is Amercian - so a bit useless!

Regarding building your credit: Cashplus offer a credit builder option if you sign up to 12 months of their pay monthly scheme.

    Re: carhire and prepaid mastercards

I use the Cashplus gold Mastercard, i use it for mainly purchases on the internet, as i have no debit card. I have had it for 4 months now and find it very easy to use! There are 2 payment options on this particular card, you can either pay a monthly fee (i pay £4.95) or you can choose to "pay as you use" where they add an certain amount on everytime you purchase something. Withdrawals are also charged. I choose the monthly fee as i use it quite alot, and it is more cost effective to pay the monthly fee than every purchase. It is also free to load money onto the card at the post office. I have never used it to hire a car, but it does say in the t&c's you can use it for this, but you have to phone up and get a higher authorisation which shouldnt be a problem if you use your account effectively, i.e make sure your monthly payment is loaded (if this is the plan you chose) onto the card when it should be and dont use it when there is no credit on, as it will just get declined! There is not much more to say about these cards, if there is no credit on, then you cant use it!!!

    Re: carhire and prepaid mastercards

I would like to know more about the prepaid credit cards as well, I've just applied for one as the only way I can pay for something with a particular company is via credit card.

Does anyone else use a pre-paid credit card and is it easy to deal with?

    Thanks
