It sounds like a CV joint to me, I have had a few of these go over the years. If you look under the car at the front you may see a load of dirty grease around the mid inner wheel that's been thrown out of the protective rubber boot.

Usually the rubber boots that retain the grease around the joint just split with wear, tear or age, letting the joint run dry resulting in wear and the eventual failure of the joint. The early indications are a knocking noise particularly when on full lock or under load.

Car problem. Knocking from front wheel.

    Hi

Any mechanics out there ? I will obviously book the car in with a local garage, but just wanted to see if anyone was aware of what this could be.

My Ford Focus has started to make a knocking noise from the passenger side front wheel, when the car steering is moved to almost full lock left or right. Could this be the CV joint that is on its way out ?
