    Car Insurance...17 year Old

My daughter is 17 years old and learning to drive. She is looking to purchase a cheap car (£600) and I would like to know the best and chaepest way to get it insured. I am encouraging her to go for a group 1/2 car.

Should she just get the policy in her name or have me as an additional older driver. Should I own the car and have her as a named driver. I really dont know the best way to proceed, any help and advice gratefully received

    Hi Russ

Everything you have said makes sense here. I would suggest you have a look on Parkers website for the cars that fall under groups 1/2 but typically it'll be the likes of a Corsa/Punto type vehicle.

Ideally if she can get her own policy from the very start it makes more sense as she can then start building up her own no claims discount as quickly as possible meaning in the longer term she'll benefit from cheaper premiums. I understand this isn't always possible but there are certain things she can do to drive her costs down such as adding an older driver, increasing her voluntary excess and adding additional security to the car such as alarm/imobiliser.

    Good luck
    Peter
