    Car Insurance V5 Address

    Hi

Would like anyones help/advise on the following. My car has been broken in to and looks like it will be written off. Now the problem is that my car is still registered with the DVLA at my parents address (this was an oversight not a scam). For my car insurance the car is and has always been reported to the Insurance company as the address where I live. Its just the V5C that still has my parents address on with me as the registered keeper. As the car is going to be written off and I have to send in my V5C I noticed the address on it being my parents. So is it likely that my policy is going to be marked void even though the insurance was set for the correct address. My week has gone from bad to worse and would appreciate any advice, apart from "Always check your documents you idiot!".

    Thanks!

    Re: Car Insurance V5 Address

Hi --- As long as you have declared your correct home address where the car is based & kept to the insurers, then I cannot see the innocently overlooked address on the V5C causing a problem, as the risks have already been calculated correctly in working out your insurance premium based on the correct postcode you provided.

The address on the V5C is irrelevant really as long as it's in your name, lots of cars are registered at different addresses to where the car is kept or operated from, in your case the car was damaged outside the address that you have declared to the insurers....therefore that does not alter the risks that your premium has been based upon.

Hi -- I wouldn't be worried by that it's not as if you have deceived them by trying to get a lower premium.

The registered address on V5C is more crucial for the Police or other agencies to send speeding tickets or contact you, ie when your road tax is due to expire, it does not affect the risks of where the car is kept for insurance reasons. The same would have applied had you forgot to amend the address on your driving licence, you would still hold a licence therefore it would not affect insurance.
