Have you tried a local Insurance Broker who may have access to alternatives.

Might be cheaper to pay for driving lessons with driving school, rather than pay excessive Insurance costs. Once he has passed his test he might wish to buy his own car anyway.

apologies for the delay,

one car family , a wee nissan micra! car is registered to me as his fatherad he would become an additional named driver, quotes so far have been on car insurance searches on this site, very hefty with hefty excesses too ! hes had about 15 lessons but i want him to practice with me in my wee runner, any further suggestions to find a good competitive policy?

Endsleigh Insurance have a 17to40 online site for younger drivers including those with provisional licences.

Is the 18 year old the owner and registered keeper or is this a second car within the family and the 18 year old will be a named driver while learning?

Your post is unclear about who holds the current policy and whether there is an issue adding an 18 year old? If it is an issue, is this the cost or have they said no due to the vehicle rating group?

anyone got any tips/advice for providing the cheapest car insurance for an 18 year old provisional licence holder ? if i insure my car in the near future without him on it, i may need to cancel old police, be penalised then take out a new one, all help welcome
