    CJASSO:

    Any ideas?

I recently suggested to an overseas worker that he imported a foregn registerd car, insured it in the country it was registerd in for UK use and drive it here for the maximum 6 months allowed. In some circumstances, this will actually cost less than taking out UK insurance on a UK car.

Insurance companies try to justify their silly prices because they keep getting ripped off by garages so they need to rip off drivers. In the short term there isn't an easy answer. In the long term, the system must change maybe to something like the New Zealand system where their annual vehicle tax costs less than ours but includes legal minimum insurance for any driver.

Car Insurance for a 21 year old daughter at uni in Manchester

My daughter has been driving as a named driver on my policy when at home (Hertfordhsire) for the last 3+ years (no claims or accidents) but I am know seeking to insure her under her own policy so that she can use the car in Manchester and I will transfer ownership of the car to her. I am being quoted ridiculous amounts of money the lowest of which is £2.5k (highest so far £5k by my own current insurer).

It is little wonder that young drivers dont bother to get insurance if the car is taxed - the fine if caught will be cheaper than the premium.

    Any ideas?
