    CapitalOne platinum card

I applied for a CapitalOne platinum card with 0% interest levied on new purchases until 1st May 2009. There's a second CapitalOne card advertised on moneysupermarket.com with an interest-free credit until 1st March 2009.

CapitalOne denied my application (despite my having an excellent credit record), but said they could offer me instead a card with interest-free credit lasting until 1st February 2009.

Has anyone successfully applied for one of their extended interest-free credit cards?

    Strange isn't it.

I too applied for the same credit card today and was offered the interest free credit to 1 Feb. The interest after that date was also a lot higher ( 19.9% APR) after that date.

I too have an excellent credit rating and was not declined but never received an acceptance online. I had to call them and was told of the offer being made to me.

    Re: CapitalOne platinum card

Good catch on the interest rate! They're also offering me 19.9% (vs. the advertised 11.9%) after the 0% period expires. I didn't pay attention because I plan to pay off the entire balance close to the end of the 0% offer period. Also they didn't say what my credit limit would be, although they noted that it's a minimum £1,500.

For an offer that is advertised, "This product is only available via moneysupermarket.com", I think we're being scammed. Had I known, I'd have tried my luck with Barclaycard instead, but CapitalOne already pulled my credit report.

    Re: CapitalOne platinum card

I finally received my credit card today. For a moneysupermarket "special", it sure stinks.

This card has the highest interest rate, coupled with the lowest credit limit, of all my credit cards. None of these had a balance over £300 when I applied for the CapitalOne card; my overall credit utilization was less than 2%.

The only attraction of the CapitalOne card is the initial, interest-free, credit period and two free credit reports (worth an additional £4).

    Re: CapitalOne platinum card

same thing happened to me, tried getting the interest free till sept 09, called up to check where it was and he said we can offer you a different card, the interest rate went up and the 0% term went down to feb 09, told them where to go, it was just the principal of it as i would've paid it off way before then with savings.

i'm just annoyed they have done a credit check on me for nothing

    Re: CapitalOne platinum card

I received an email from Motley Fool just this morning telling me how great the CapitalOne card is with its zero percent until September 09. Ha! I thought.

I felt the same way as you, but I decided to accept their terms. I plan to max out the card by utilizing it exclusively and pay the monthly minimum until February 2009, at which time I'll pay the entire balance. After that I'll either cancel the card or make a very modest charge on it every couple of months so they'll have to keep sending me (paper) statements.

    Re: CapitalOne platinum card

    Hi,

I had started this as another thread (not having seen the original one here. good to know I'm not alone.

I've just applied for a Capital One card because it advertises 0% on new purchases until September 2009 (Oct '09 now, on this site).

Firstly, their online application sucks. I got a message "We're currently processing your application, this should take no longer than 60seconds, if the result is not shown by then please press refresh."

When refresh is pressed, the same message is shown.

    Ad infinitum.

Which just got annoying after ten minutes.

Then, after the third application (I hope I'm not perceived as desperate here!) I finally get a message "You'll be contacted in the post".

Post came today. "Unfortunately we've turned you down for the advertised deal, but here's another deal, 0% on new purchases until May 2009" (Not nearly as good).

I've a perfect credit rating, and always have had. I used to get annoyed with capital one at the amount of junk mail they'd send to me.

Hence I'm possibly a little hostile to this company.

Does anyone know of anyone who's actually received the advertised offer? Or is this another case of hard to prove false advertising?

p.s. I don't know why I'm so annoyed, I'm just using the "0% purchases" for a little mortgage stoozing......

    -Andy.

    Re: CapitalOne platinum card

The same thing happened to me! They offerred me 24.9% interest rate instead of the advertised 11.9%, and 0% only until 1 May 09 instead of 1 Nov 09. I know I have an excellent credit score/rating as I purchased the full details from Experion not so long ago.

It makes me really angry that the news keeps telling us about the credit crunch and how financial institutions are only looking for the best quality customers, and yet we have to put up with this nonsense!

I called them to see if their offer was negotiable but the answer was no. She said I could appeal the decision if I want but I don't think anything ever comes from appealing. Once the computer says no, it's no. I also told them to stick it.

    Re: CapitalOne platinum card

Hi,just another angle on good old Capital One cards.I applied for a card, online, at the beginning of June for the 0% till Sep 09 etc.Seemed like a good offer at the time. The usual message appeared about 'reviewing my application etc' and would write to me within 7 days. After 10 days of nothing from them I called and was told(after waiting around 15/20 minutes to actually talk to someone!), that my application was still being processed, although no explanation was given to me for the delay.I called again after another 7 days of hearing nothing to be told that, eventually,a so-called 'linked address' had been either associated with my name or current address and further checks were being carried out. After lengthy 'discussions' with the customer services agent I was given the rogue address details,of which I knew absolutely nothing about.Obviously a little concerned by this revelation,I was informed that this information was given to Capital One by one or both of the two main credit reference agencies, namely Experian and Equifax.I then decided it would be best to cancel my application and try and find out what was going on.The agent agreed the cancellation, after much debate, and said there would be a cancellation letter sent out within 7/10 working days.I am still waiting for this letter as of today! Being a member of Credit Expert/Experian I checked on my credit report at the earliest opportunity(at a cost of £6.99 to myself) and found no mention at all of the 'linked address'.As I have never had problems with my credit score/report,and this 'address' had never been brought up before,I decided against getting my credit report from Equifax as well,as I was informed that the information held would have been almost identical. Therefore my only conclusion can be is that my information has been muddled up with someone elses, either at Capital One or elsewhere. As I was not prepared to spend another half an hour or so on the phone to Capital One's 'customer service' department,I decided to write a letter to their complaints department on 05/07/08,with promises of a reply within 5 days of receiving my letter.Well, what a surprise! I've still not heard a thing from them,17 days later.

Somebody, somewhere needs to have a look at how Capital One go about their business, especially in the customer service areas. It's just terrible.A company the size of Capital One really should do a whole lot better otherwise a lot of people will choose not to have any dealings with them in the future.Word soon gets around, especially with sites like this,so Capital One-BEWARE! Sort it out!
