Thanks for the advice,, i phoned ofcom after the first post and they informed me i could cancel my contract if they agree its of a material detriment, in other words "the increases cost you more then the agreed contract" , took this info back to BT and they have agreed to cancel contract without charge! regards!

They are a bunch of monkeys, with more than one pompous prat working for them. Unfortunately, they are right in that you can cancel the service, but not the 18 month contract. This is also a rolling contract which will renew if you don't formally cancel it in time (unsure of the timeframe). Find out the optimum date you can call and cancel to prevent automatic renewal. Get the name of whoever you speak to, and make a written record of the conversation. Get an email address from them, and send them an email record of the conversation as a Memorandum of Understanding inviting them to get back to you if they disagree with any of this. You may not be able to cancel the service either as they probably won't co-operate with giving the MAC number for your new service provider. When you speak to them, demand to speak to a UK call centre (they switch at different times of day). This is not a racist comment, but their Asian call centre staff are notorious for having no concept of how we work, or how BTs equipment works in UK - I have had some quite bizarre conversations with them.

Cancelling my BT contract due to price increases!

Phoned BT today with the aim to cancel my contract due to December 3rd price increases, been with them for 12 months of a 18 month contract. total broadband & unlimited call package,, paid up front for 12 months line rental,, after throwing over my shoulder the sales patter and being told how good their services appear,, I informed them of my intention to terminate my contract due to the price increases,, after being past from pillar to post i spoke to some pompous pratt who told me i could cancel my service with BT but not my contract, i guess this means i will still have to pay my contract? once my service is terminated?, surely the whole point is to cancel my contract and find another provider who will take over my service and contract,, after being tied in knots over the whole issue i decided to come away from the phone call before it got nasty, informing the pratt i will ring him back later!. I would like some information regarding this and where i stand legally, regards!!
