speak to your official reciever and I think you will find that if they are going to be unreasonable you will be able to include it within the Bankruptcy or at least the official reciever will be able to give you advice as that is what they are there for.

Re: Cancellation of a BT landline

Telling them you were recently made bankrupt was a bad idea - that suggests you now have lots more money, rather than less, floating around!

Unless you are feeling particularly combatitive it would probably be best just to take the hit and pay the £30. Unless the bankruptcy gives you a legal loophole there ain't much ground for complaint - if you close a twelve month contract two months early, you owe the balance. Unless you can prove unfair alteration through a silent transfer to a changed terms contract then you're paddleless. And you will have to take them to court over this - they won't be going to court over £30. But that £30 can be thrown on to your new post bankruptcy clean credit history - not a very good start.

    Cancellation of a BT landline

    Hi there,

I was wondering if you could help me please!? I recently asked BT if I could change my calling plan to a lower plan for my Landline phone to which they said 'No, not at this present time'. I told them I would be looking for a new supplier as I thought they were too dear and that I was not using the service to benefit from it therefore didn't see why I should pay for a service I am not using. I then found a cheaper provider and set up an account with them and got connected. I then went to call BT to cancel and was told I couldn't as I was still 'In term until July, therefore would have to pay £14.95 a month for the next 2 months!!!!!!!!!!!! I told her that I was trying to save money as recently became bankrupt and was reducing all my outgoings as much as poss. She didnt care and was quite unsympathetic going on to tell me that 'she has been with BT for 10 years and knew what 'In term ' meant and that she would have to do the same if it was her, making me feel stupid!!!?!

I am reluctant to pay BT for a service I am not using. Can they take me to court for £ 30 if I refuse to pay it?

What are my rights as a customer on this matter please? I would appreciate any advice you could give me please! xxx
