A few years back Barlcaycard offered a '0% balance transfer rate for life' card but you had to spend at least £50 a month on new purchases at a much higher rate. Given that monthly repayments were allocated to the balance transfer rate first, this meant that interest would always be incurred on the new purchases unless the balance was cleared in full. But this is academic as there aren't any cards that offer 0% rate for life. One of the best balance transfer rates for life is 4.95% from Intelligent Finance. This rate may still be lower than your prevailing loan rate from HSBC.
