Can i terminate contract with tiscali?

I took out a package with Tiscali in February 2008 which included landline calls anytime. I received an email from them on 18th Feb confirming they had taken over the line from BT and all systems were go.

In the meantime Tiscali have debited my account with the first months tariff of £30 which includes reduced rate line rental.

Last week i received a bill from BT for £103 which included line rental and their Option 1 broadbvand package (my previous supplier).

I rang BT to query this and they stated that Tiscali had cancelled the line request on 20th Feb, thus handing it back to BT.

Can i terminate the contract with Tiscali for breach of contract and do i have some recourse to pay the BT bill of £103?

    Thanks
    John

Re: Can i terminate contract with tiscali?

I had my line rental supposedly taken over by Tiscali. They sent me a letter saying the take over of the line was in progress, then I got a letter saying there was a problem, but when I called up, the Tiscali operator said "Sometimes these letters are sent out in error." Typical Tiscali waffle - it turns out they hadn't taken over my line, and in the meantime had already taken the money upfront.

I stayed with Tiscali because it was all part of the broadband deal. BT refunded me part of the money I paid - a lot quicker than Tiscali, I might add.

You're best talking to the Tiscali High Level Complaints Executive about this, because the call centres will just tell you anything out of their rear ends.

The Head Office is 020 70872000.
