Hmm, I think I'm going to disagree to a point. If a savings account far outstrips the rest of the competition then it is a great deal, even if it is a far cry from the excellent rates on offer just a few short years ago.

One thing that does wind me up is ISA rates - I think the rates being offered on many are much too low. Hopefully they will pick up in the new tax year, as providers start competing for our cash during the peak ISA season.

Im not sure things are always quite as simple as you sometimes appear to try to imply

Having said all this I do find some of your posts and views quite interesting and unique at times.

no matter how it's dressed up - there are no 'great deals' on offer! This government has no interest (sic) in helping savers, since it is their stated policy to encourage people to spend their way out of recession.

So to those people who acted with responsibility, and didn't spend money they didn't have, and actually saved for their old age, this governments answer - two fingers.
