Re: Buying my first small car

I have recently changed my car as I needed something a little larger and parted with what I considered to be the best of all the 14 cars I had owned.

It was fairly roomy, very, very economical had a great turn of speed, easy to park. service costs minimal.

While I am pleased with new vehicle for size, the old car was in a way much better, I can recommend anyone to buy one if you can afford it.

The car was a Citroen C3 which I owned for 4 years

£4k for that car was too much, look around for one private owned by senior citizen, with low mileage, mine had only 25k on clock

    Buying my first small car

I don't know anything about cars so please excuse silly questions. I would like to spend up to £3500 on a used car. Maybe a corsa, polo or similar. Citroen C1 was recommended to me as its only £6000 to buy new.

Is it better to buy a new car or secondhand. Do new cars last longer without faults please.  I saw a citroen c3 today for £4000. It was 7 years old,70,000 miles. He said it wouldnt develp faults as it was in such good condition. He also said I had to make mymind up quickly as they go quick. He wouldnt reduce the price as used cars fetch the price he said.

Is it better to go to a main dealer, where it seems more expensive,or a smaller, back street dealer? Should I get the RAC to check the car first?

Has anyone got advice. Thanks for you help.
