Re: buildings insurance, contents insurance and home insurance - the difference?

    Hi

Home Insurance is the overal title in regard to the type of insurance. It would include Buildings and Contents Insurance.

The Buildings Insurance would cover the actual building itself e.g. walls, roof, services pipes and apparatus. It may also cover some internal fixtures e.g Kitchen and Bathroom furniture. Be aware that some of the fittings and fixtures may not be covered by your Buildings Insurance. It depends on the lease and the Buildings Insurance that was arranged. For a full definition see your policy information for the block of flats policy. You should ask for a copy.

The Contents are your possessions that you have moved into the flat. If cover for the Kitchen and Bathroom furniture is not included under the block Buildings Insurance, you can include under a Contents Insurance, but you have to ask by phoning Insurers or broker to extend the cover.

My advice is therefore to check the Buildings Insurance and your lease. Then look to take out Contents Insurance that would provide adequate cover.

buildings insurance, contents insurance and home insurance - the difference?

    Hi there,

I have recently bought a new flat and it has a "block buildings insurance policy". I have now also purchased contents insurance for my flat. My question is do I still need home insurance as well? I havent a clue what the difference is and want to make sure I'm covered if e.g. a pipe was to burst in my bathroom or something?!

    Any help is gratefully received!

    Lynsay :o)
