Building/carpentry tools taken by client in dispute.

My partners tools have been locked in his clients flat because she decided to dispute the value of his work. He can no longer work without these crucial things. he has written saying that she will be charged his daily rate for each day she keeps the tools and to correspond only by letter.

Now she calls him, texts him, gets a male friend to leave threatening messages, gets another friend to ring him. Is this not theft and harrassment? What can he do? all replies gratefully received. He is also a member of the Guild of Mastercraftsmen.

Visit your local Police station and let them know the score. To deprive your partner of his tools of trade is a criminal offence of theft, if she disputes the bill she should dispute that through a Solicitor using civil law procedures not by taking the law into her own hands & illegally detaining his tools.

Ask the Police to provide a escort for him to her premises whilst he seeks the return of his equipment, failing that she could be charged with theft.

Could you imagine what it would be like, if garages refused to return customers cars everytime the garage bill was disputed by the customer.?
