If you look elsewhere on other forums inc. the BT USER Forum, you will find many people complaining that BT's usage stats are always much higher than they are measuring ,leading to excess charges and forced package changes.
Suggest you look at these other forums to see if a solution has been found yet.

Can anyone recommend a good software I can install on my laptops to monitor my daily usage?

Your first step is to talk/write to BT. You mention a 473MB download. The usage will also measure uploads and updates. It's important that you measure things in the same way.

I expect that BT will be able to point you in the direction of software that will measure the usage in the same way as they measure it. Often there will be something on an introduction/installation CD.

After 18 days, it's likely that you've passed any cooling off period and are in the contract for the term. Details about your obligation will be in the agreement but it's possible that BT will ask for something close to 15 monthly payments to cancel. Again, it's BT that you need to put this question to first.

    BT Infinity (40GB Usage)

    Hi,

I recently moved from Virgin Fibre Optic broadband to BT Infinity (Fibre - first 3 months free, after that £18/month & a 40 GB download limit per month). After around 18 days of usage I received an email to say that I have already used 33 GB of the 40 GB allocated. This was a bit of a shock to me. To test this I started to track my account for the last two days. Yesterday I did a total download of 473 MB and the usage report says I have used 1.4 GB. I checked the BT Home hub to see who is connect and can see ony two laptops (both mine) connected. I also checked that the machines were not downloading the regular updates.

    1) I can't see where the additional 1 GB usage came from? Is BT tryinig to get me to upgrade my package to unlimited?

    2) Can anyone recommend a good software I can install on my laptops to monitor my daily usage?

    3) Any idea how much BT will charge me if I want to leave them? I have signed up a contract for 18 months (first 3 months broadband free). They also gave me free installation .

    regards,
    Tony
