the key thing here is the UP TO part, as it doesnt gaurantee you will always be able to get 6.5meg all of the time, as previous messages state other factors do affect connection speed such as level of congestion on network, how many others on exchange use broadband and line length to name a few! i would suggest connecting at off peak times for faster connection speeds (tends to be early evening). also the line test when ordering is an initial test only and is not normally guaranteed speed

... BT advised my line was capable of 6.5mbps when I signed up and even on there website. NOW they advise my line is only capable of 2mbps. Which I was receiving 6.5mbs in Jan but now 2mbps, no mater what time of day or night.

Many factors can affect your speed, for example you rates will be slower on busy periods (evenings/weekends) and the distance from your exchange will be an important factor (try: www.samknows.com to find this sort of info out). Also, how many other broadband customers are sharing that exchange will make a difference.

    Hope this helps...

Hi see my posting "Telling it Like It Is" for a bit of honesty from an ISP (and BT Wholesale) about what you can really expect.

BT HOME HUB and UPTO 8mbps

Hi, I signed up to BT Total Broadband last month, was told on the phone due to the length of my line I would only be able to receive speeds of 6.5mbps. However only a month on I can only receive 2.5mbps I have contacted BT and they say it is down to the length of my line. So has my line grow in the last month?

Anyone else out there had the same thing?
