I'm planning to get a laptop or PC for home and have been shopping around for deals. Most of them say that theyll check its available in my area and do a credit check before a direct debit is set up.

My flat currently has both BT and Telewest sockets but I've not had a landline connected yet. Also, my credit history isn't too great so want to make sure I can actually set something up before I run off buying a computer that has no broadband to connect to.

Has anyone been turned down for telephone/broadband/cable packages before?

 If this happens to me, how do I then sign up for broadband with another company? And which one for example?
