    Thanks Michael.

Think I'll check out some reviews first and go from there.

    Hello Gelert,

I would advise speaking to 3G on 0800 358 6946 as they do a Pay As You Use option which may be better suited to you.

Be warned it does not always work that well in doors and speeds vary depending on location from 56k to 2.8meg; give them a call and see what they say.

Good luck and keep us posted.

    Kind Regards,

    Michael.

Well - no - you don't have to have a phone line :)

There are a number of products available from the mobile operators that will deliver 'broadband' - typically over their 3G networks - which if memory serves is a peak of about 1.5Mbit (speed) although there are usually strict caps on usage after which you will get 'stung' per MB used.

I think most networks offer something along these lines - current champ seems to be 3 - www.three.co.uk

    Broadband access using USB modem

    Hi Rob

I haven't got a landline and I don't want to get one installed as I get plenty of inclusive minutes on my mobile contract. Having said that, I desperately need internet access and someone mentioned that you can get broadband via a USB modem, with no phone line necessary. Is that correct?

Also, are there any negatives in terms of the quality of the service if this is the only means of internet connection? Which are the best deals - I don't want to be tied in to a 2 year contract.

This is not a subject I know much about so any help will be appreciated.

    thanks
