British Gas Homecare not being honoured

Hi. I have been paying for BG home care for over 7 years now and last month when i need a repairt to my boiler carried out they told me that as that boiler is nolonger being supported by them they cannot carryout any repairs or replace it. This is a boiler they have inspected each year and we have made them aware of the rust on the side of the unit. It is this rust that has ceroded away at the boiler and it has started to leak a little bit. If we have been reliant on the expertise at BG to tell us if it needed replacing or not and when we requested to replace it they decide they do not support it any more what can i do. I feel like a mug for paying some much money out to these guys for 7 years, never making a claim and when i needed them they let me down. If this problem has been the same for several years do they not have a right to repair considering they have been inspecting it each year. Any advise on this matter would be most appreciated as BG has now cancelled the policy on the basis they cannot support me any more and returned a cheque for £49.00.

    Regards

    Ram Jakhu

If they inspected the boiler every year, and continued to accept payment based on the fitness of your boiler, then they are acknowledging that they did in fact support your boiler. They would have needed to inform you in writing that your boiler was no longer supported, otherwise they are in breach of contract.

I agree with you that Homecare is a rip off, they usually charge well above average for maintenance etc.

Best thing to do is to contact Energywatch/Consumer Focus and get them to help you.

I don't think EnergyWatch/Consumer Focus will be of much help here as its not the gas or electricty side of things at issue here, although they may be able to apply some pressure.

If they are now stating they are unable to repair/cover your system i would be inclined to ask for the date at which this became policy and for all payments since this date to be refunded in full. As said previously if they have been inspecting your boiler and taking payments they have accepted liability to maintain the contract.

This is of course if you are unable to exert sufficient pressure for them to repair your boiler regardless.

In addition many other suppliers alsooffer a similar servie, E.on I bleeive now matches BGAS's portfolio of extra's covering electrics, plumbing drainage as well as the boiler, may be worth a look for on-going insurance.

    Hi,

I can assure you Energywatch/Consumer focus can be of help here, even if it is just to apply pressure. What people don't seem to realise is that the energy companies have a much smaller window in which to resolve the complaint once Energywatch/Consumer Focus is involved, and they can't get away with fobbing them off.
