Re: British gas - advice please most welcome

The set up on meter looks fine, however you are probably paying more for the elec you are using than if you were paying by a direct debit, as you are coming close to paying off the debt it might be worth asking brit gas if they will consider removing the meter, or if you like paying through the meter shop around for the best deal.

The figures you have taken off the meter wont really tell you much about your consumption, I would monitor how much you put into the meter each week minus the debt setting, or take a meter reading (display H on meter) in a weeks time and divide the difference between the readings by the number of days to work out your average consumption for the week.

p.s I have heard chest freezers are not very efficent

British gas - advice please most welcome

    Hi all

In December 2008 - British Gas sent me a bill stating i owed them over £1200 as they had calculated we have only been paying £7.50 per week since we moved in (2 and a half years) - whereas we had in reallity been using £15.00 per week.

BTW - we only have Electric no gas supply

The House is a small 2 x bedroom old terraced house.I am 46 and my wife is 44 we are the only occupants. We both work.

We have no electric heating (coal fire),we have an emersion heater (on for 2 hour per day)we have 1 x small fridge freezer,1 x small chest freezer,2 x Tv`s (on for say 6 hours per day)1 x cooker (used once per day)1 x microwave cooker (used once per day)we turn everything possible off when we are out and use energy saving light bulbs in every room .

13 months ago (to pay off our debt ) British Gas installed a pre payment meter

These are the figures i have just taken off the meter

    E - Total accepted - £2023

    F - Charge/week - £21.45

    G - Total - 7357 Kwh

    H - Rate 1 - 7357 Kwh

    I - Rate 1 - 11.80 pence per Kwh

    S - total debt - £213.00

    T - debt charge/week - £20.00

In this info OK ?? - is it right ?? - or are they taking the pi**

    Cheers
