Re: BLUE TOOTH OPEN TO ABUSE
Rob Barnes: I think that we are all in agreement that,
yes, bluetooth can be open to abuse but from a hackers perspective
rather than a general danger for most users.....
Despite this,
there is no way to regulate the service, as has been previously posted.
The only way to regulate it would be to "turn it off" completely - ie
make it defunct. That is not going to happen
Amen to that!

christy: Poor penguin,
You embarrass yourself quite a lot, and certainly drop yourself in it, how many more people are you going to insult. I am here to stay, I am certainly not interested in any one on this thread who has slanted my daughter, I could not care less about what you think. I stick by what I said and Blue Tooth is open to abuse. You seem to be under the impression that if I dont agree with your boring threads then you have to take a pot at my parenting skills, and my daughter, well your out of order, you dont even know me or my daughter so you have no right to judge anyone, who are you nobody to me, just strangers with biased veiws. Hi backfoot and cat thank you for your support, do you think beaufont is back.
I'm not judging you or your daughter at all Christy, I'm merely trying to lighten the atmosphere here which has gotten heated at times.
I'd like you to quote any instance which you believe is a slant against your daughter by me please, so I can defend myself. I'd also like you to highlight anything you think is a personal insult against yourself. I seem to recall that I'm not the one that's had any of my threads deleted due to personal insults towards other members on here. You may find my posts boring, well in that case can I politely ask that you dont read them and move on to the next post. As for implying that Backfoot was a troll, I think you'll find that I apologised for that. We're all trying to help, however I think you're expecting us to provide different answers to the ones that you are getting.

Re: BLUE TOOTH OPEN TO ABUSE
im not sure if with all the extra posts you have failed to read mine, i hope your jabs at other posters didnt include me as i am trying to help. below is a copy of my post trying to explain what bluetooth is and why what you asking for (although it is understandable) is unfortunatly impossible.
It seems your guys aren’t going to come conclude this debate easily. But your not exactly making it easy but deviating from the point of the thread.
I think the problem is a misunderstanding of Bluetooth and the technologies involved. Bluetooth is essentially a free media sharing device. I agree that it is open to abuse, as is all types of sharing technology.
You could filter messages containing certain words, phrases or even types of media automatically. But these filters could easy be activated and deactivated, the same as turning Bluetooth on or off. A password could easy be integrated, but then you might as well just get your child a phone without Bluetooth.
The only way to ensure nothing inappropriate is being shared would be to have Bluetooth monitored by an external party, were perhaps you could set criteria that should not be sent to the phone. But this isn’t possible as Bluetooth is a p2p service, which means it is sent direct from one device to another, hence no 3rd party could intervene. If Bluetooth was changed so a 3rd party could get involved then it would no longer be Bluetooth. It would essentially be monitored email.
Basically what im trying to get across is it basically isn’t possible to do what you are demanding. And if it were some how done it would require such massive changes to the technology that it would no longer be Bluetooth. Another service would have to be released, and I doubt Bluetooth would be removed from all phones in the wake of this new technology as it is so useful for hands free kits and many other gadgets.

Re: BLUE TOOTH OPEN TO ABUSE
A troll is someone who foments dissent on forums.
Cor, that was good - anyone want to volunteer a translation or a wikipedia definition which I bet there will be!

Re: BLUE TOOTH OPEN TO ABUSE
Good question - I had a troll once when I was
a kid (they were very popular toys in the early 90s) - it had a Space
Suit on and had lime green hair. Some people call them Gonks which were
also toys popular in the 80s. I'm not sure that bluetooth was
insinuating that BackFoot was an astronaut with lime green hair though,
he probably meant troll in the sense of a fiendish giant (similar to
ogres) or a human-like beast of the wilderness, living underground in
hills, caves or mounds.
I think I'd rather be the astronaut to be honest...

absentfriend: Why would it be a wind-up? Christy is a long standing member and to call Backfoot a troll is just plain daft. The discussion ahs got out of hand a tad at certain points but good forum threads often do.
Well, I've enjoyed it anyways!!
I know , I've enjoyed it as well as finding it a tad frustrating.
My tongue was firmly in my cheek when referring to the wind-up side of the whole thread. Debating is good for the soul and a debate isn't a debate if everyone has the same opinion.....
Here's to more debates!
JJ
BTW, what's a Troll? (don't say Backfoot before you do anyone) Never heard this before, I'm not a massive forum user...

OK the point I was trying to make was that Backfoot's post was equally as pointless as the one that I made. For the record I was merely trying to point out, in a humorous way, that the originator of this thread has long since left the building. I was also commenting on the fact that despite the overwhelming majority of replies on this thread sharing the same view that bluetooth is essentially safe, the original poster has seemingly refused to take on board our comments. I hope I haven't offended anyone.
