    Best first car?

I am taking my driving test next month and if I pass then I want to buy a car. My budget is £1500 max. I live in a very hilly area so it will need good control and it has to be reliable as I can't afford to keep repairing it.

Can anyone suggest a good first car? (Not Vauxhall Corsas - weird gearstick)

Also, can anyone give me a few pointers as to what to look out for?

    Thanks.

Agreed on the weird gearstick on the Corsa, it's in a strange position isn't it?

IMHO, a Fiesta 1.25 around that sort of money is easy accessible (loads about for sale), reasonable to insure, reasonably stylish, nippy and reliable.Should it go wrong, any mechanic worth half his salt wil be able to repair it with his eyes shut and quickly too.

That's what I'd get if I had that type of money, hope you get something sorted...

I had a little suzuki jeep when I had my first car.  I know people said they would roll over but mine never did, and I'll admit it probably should have at times!!

Parts ect very cheap and they are hardy little cars.

Despite the love it or hate it styling (I personally don't like the style) the Ford Ka is a belter of a first car. My sister has had one for 6 years and it's never missed a beat. Shares it's 'fixability' with Fiesta...

I have a peugeot 206, its a 2001, ive had it 2 years and passed the MOT with flying colours each time, running costs aren't huge, but yet it still handles very well and is like a pocket rocket for speed
