It would be entirely useful if you bothered to explain the restrictions on the ING account.

    Apologies

its a variable rate of 6.5% AER (including a 1.66% bonus fixed for 12 months)

No penalties so you can move your money whenever you like

I am concerned though that its a Dutch bank and how easy would it be to get my money back if it gets in trouble?

    Re: best advice

I have been in the ING bank for a number of years now and have never had any problem moving my money. The only thing I feel is disadvantageous is that the normal interest rate is not good. I only receive 4.75%. It is only new customers that get the 6.5% rate so I am now looking to move my money.

Hello Big mo. Recently moving money myself and considered kaupthing - better interest than ing but still a dutch bank I believe. The usual cover for savings applies if things go pear-shaped but it is in the passport protection scheme.

    Hi,

ING Direct in the UK is regulated by the FSA and a subscriber to the UK Banking Code (info on their website) so you are covered for the first £35k as with any other UK bank. I personally closed my ING account a couple of yrs ago due to falling interest rates and I now have most of my savings with the Icelandic bank Kaupthing Edge (again covered by FSA/Banking code) - 6.55% guaranteed until Feb 2012. My other savings are with B & B...well...Abbey Santander now. On that note I can't believe B & B did not put an announcement on their website re the nationalisation until yesterday and are still advertising heavily on TV (maybe they bought alot of advertising space in advance?)
