Re: Barclays to "punish customers who stay in credit"?

hi lisa i actually work for barclays in collections the area of banking in which charges are the hot potato at the moment.

ive only seen myself what has been reported in the media and i am led to believe the reports are indeed true which in practice is meant to provide relief to customer who go overdrawn.

the new charge is £8 instead of £30 although im not sure whether there will still be a slightly higher charge for unpaid direct debits or standing orders which is charged at £35 at the moment.

the creation of a new unautorised access limit is meant to be introduced for a £22 one off charge anytime customers go over there normal limit upto a buffer limit ..i.e from normal £200 limit to say £500.

again all of this has only been reported in the media so when i eventually recieve guidance on it,il try and report back and clarify it all.

the new barclay rules on charges are meant to be introduced by no later than the end of this year although i dare say it may happen early sometime in august-september.

ive not been given any training briefs for it yet,but i am led to believe it is being drawn up to be rolled out to staff,

the new rules are meant to simplify charges aswell as reducing them ,;lets hope so.

the revamp of overdrafts should work quite well for barclays customers who dont have the sense to check there accounts every day, thust going overdrawn without realising it.

£8 per charge seems quite fair to me,

Then again they may well turn round and removed the maximum amount of times in one month they will charge a customer.

Normally they charge no more than 3 times in any one month..if they remove that limit some customers could end up being worse off.

Think about it,customers who have lets say 12 card or direct debit/standing order transactions that put the customer overdrawn will be charged £96 instead of the £90 limit for paid debit charges.

The revamp will will work for customers who dont go overdrawn all the time except the traditional times like x-mas.

Yes they have removed the payment of interest of 0.1% on current accounts, while revamping the charges for overdrawn accounts. Customers in credit will be up in arms about that one !! Not.

I don't bank with Barclays but the changes look quite fair and balanced to me.

As the bank cuts fees for unauthorised borrowing, so critics are warning that those who stay in credit will suffer. By Kate Hughes
