Re: Barclays driving me to distration too, advise against Barclays

I took mr backfoot's thread as your words but from more than one of your threads as it is not his style to 'editorialise' in that manner. I did not check the post at the time because of the source. I have looked through the Tax Haven post twice and cannot find the italicised sentences. As I am probably the most guilty member for being 'humorous' I apologise to you both for misunderstanding, assuming I haven't missed anything.

Sorry, besides the parts he added in, what is so fascinating by my post? It must be really facinating for someone to origially mis quote it and then post it again in another thread..

mr backfoot drew attention to this offering from you recently...

    "axisme:

Clare has the same style in all of her interviews, view some past ones. The Barclays interview wasn't any more cosy than the others.

Yes I agree she is stunningly attractive. Plus her charm of course.

I'm not entirely happy with Barclays, but I'm not unhappy enough to make a meal out of it.

Most people just moan about stuff. A few like to get things changed. We know where you stand. Close to Clare if possible ;-) .......lol."

Re: Barclays driving me to distration too, advise against Barclays

It's just not worth crying over. The amount I "lost", or didn't gain, was enough to buy me a very cheap pair of jeans, a moderately expensive lunch or a very cheap dinner. To be honest, I just spent more on 12 pairs of socks that I don't really need. Now, I have a full time job, I'm going to be out of the country for the next 2 months, I just really don't care about a few pounds.

If you don't like it, move with your feet. Nobody is forcing you to sign up with Barclays. Use one of the many other dozens of providers.

I was annoyed at first, but I'm just past caring now.

Re: Barclays driving me to distration too, advise against Barclays

To those like one celebrated member who are laid back about losing a few pounds interest on Barclays Tax Haven ISA, please see a current post on the Forum which is depressngly similar to this resurrected one. I would say 'the lights are on but no one's in' at Barclays butt I think the lights are off... is more appopriate.

Of course the crux of the problem is that in recent years Barclays have succumbed to delusions of adequacy and moved onto the international stage and have managed to achieve thumping great losses and only narrowly avoided becoming a basket case by failing to pay too much for ABN AMRO (that honour went to the stupid RBS - ceo still drawing his wages).

My view, supported by their actions/inactions is that they regard small savers as a necessary evil and in the case of Tax Beater and Tax Haven ISA (no lessons learned and contempt for punters by cheating them out of interest) offer punters a huge rate with a view to selling them lotsa stuff when they're ensnared and stay passed a year. A good start would be to fire the ceo and withhold his compensation package and let him take Barclays to court and treat him with the same efficicency and contempt he has treated small savers. As I said a good start!

Re: Barclays driving me to distration too, advise against Barclays

just to let you know the end of my story - 4 weeks ago somebody called from Barclays (never thought that is possible) and asked for a statement which shows the credit of my salary as detailed on my payslip. I sent the same day the March statement, called the next week about 3 times to asked if it had been received which finally after 1 week they did and then did wait for more than 2 weeks. Having heard nothing I called my mortgage adviser last Wednesday (I tried to call a few times before then but the waiting time before the phone is answered is about 10 minutes and I always gave up after about 5). The mortgage adviser then said they wanted another statement as the previous one is now too old. He also said they are taking the micky and he gave me the number of the complaints department and gave instructions of how to deal with them. He really did his best and is very friendly. Well, I called that number talked first with a unfriendly team leader from the call centre in India who logged my complaint. As I have funded my investment now with savings, a reserve account and overdrafts (it takes Citibank only a day to give a huge overdraft) I just asked for the fees back. A day later somebody from Barclays called to say that they will send me a cheque for the fees. Finally something easier than expected.

Broken Jar, the fact that you were already an existing customer still doesn't answer the question I asked of 'Broker' who has gone ominously quiet. Is it possible to arrange, finalise and complete a loan arangement, by telephone, without any paperwork? Because I don't think it is.

When I tranfer money with Barclays I also have to use the little machine, which is good because it reduces fraud, but it's another thing to carry onto the airplane! Luckily Barclays were good enough to give me three of the things.

Re: Barclays driving me to distration too, advise against Barclays

I have just spoken with a very helpful, understanding Barclays on their 0800 282 390 complaints line. I was told, in future, to ignore the fact that it says 'complaints' and for my convenience start off with them and they will sort out or route me on having briefed the next person along the chain.

Now for the fun bit and please refer to my earlier thread re: the Tax Haven ISA. When I was put through to the offshore call centre, which was ok, but I had specifically mentioned the earlier problem and 'complaints' had briefed them I find that my ISA opened in branch with my NI number is fine but my online account doesn't have it so I couldn't open online next year and they can't accept my NI number over the phone. Guess what! I have to go into the branch to give them my NI number, which they already have but not for online.

Yes I am which probably makes all the difference. The cash arrived in my account within 3 working days. I obviously had to sign in and verify my identity with that little chip and pin type machine that Barlcays give you for internet banking. All my experiences with Barclays have been OK, must be one of the lucky ones!

Broken Jar, I am guessing that you were an existing customer with Barclays when you applied for the loan? Was this a loan in principle, or have you actually received the cash? At least your experience with Barclays appears to have been positive.

Skywalker:Having slept on this, I am still not convinced that there are mortgage lenders out there that will lend money based on purely electronic correspondence. Can you please tell me who they are 'Broker' since you categorically state that 'some lenders can verify everything electronically.' I want to verify what you have stated. Thank you.

I don't know about increasing a mortgage but I have just taken out a loan with Barlcays that was done completely online. I never spoke to anyone and not had to receive or post anything so the technology is definately there.

Re: Barclays driving me to distration too, advise against Barclays

That sounds familiar. My mortgage adviser has always been helpful and doing his best. The problem starts at the next level.....Barclays has to do something to organise the process from then on. I have now managed to scrape the amount I needed together from savings and overdrafts as I now got a call from Barclays asking for another bankstatement....

Re: Barclays driving me to distration too, advise against Barclays

I noticed problems with Barclays when I tried to open my business account. Having opened my personal account a few weeks prior, I was expecting relative ease. Initial meeting went fine, there was no problem. Gave them all the info and was told it would be open within a week...

1 month later I finally got the account opened. After they sent everything to the account opening team, various things got lost. From proof of identity to random forms already filled in. Other things were asked for, etc.

The only great thing I can say about Barlclys is their Branch staff are always really helpful and they also have a nice online banking system.
