    Barclays car insurance

Richard Mason in his article today says that 'Barclays promise to undercut the price of any car insurance deal that beats theirs by £1 and offer you £50 cash back.' This has not been my personal experience. I was insured with Barclays last year and rang them about 1 week before my renewal was due to ask whether the renewal quote they had sent me was the best they could do. The man in the call centre told me to call back a couple of days before my renewal date (10 days ago) and they would have the authority to possibly give me a better quote if I had found something cheaper. I called around and got a quote £150 cheaper from Diamond. When I called Barclays back, the woman at the call centre had absolutely no interest in matching Diamond's offer. I am over 25 and have 2 years no claims bonus! Needless to say, I am not with Barclays this year.

    Re: Barclays car insurance

I am not a particular fan of any one insurer and I will always take up an issue direct with an insurer if i think it is a fair point that has been raised. However, I do not think that you understand the Barclays offer. They say that they will match your RENEWAL, not any old quote that you can muster from another source.

In order to qualify for the payment, they wish to see the renewal papers from your EXISTING insurer. They are not offering to match the price offered by other insurers and indeed they would obviously match your renewal as they gave it!
