Haha. Yeah I guess your right. Never had problems with them... until I asked them to do something. *laughs*

Although looking through these forums I don't see to many topics on Bank Of Scotland.... or am I wrong? Many people have difficulties with them?

Well if I headed down that road there isn't much they could do surely? I am offering to pay it back... Just thought it might be at a high number. like £200 and was panicing before of course I have everything else to pay for. Not to mention joining the student life.

Well, not that I mind money being given... but it's just another mistake made recently by The Bank Of Scotland.

Been trying to open a current account unsuccessfully for awhile now. It was accepted no problems... just haven't got past that stage. One excuse after another on why it was completely processed - network error, operator error, ID check....

Then finally stated I need to credit the account with £100. "No problem" i say.... they do so on my behalf... and what happens? Very similar to the orginal topic.... transfer it to someone else's account!!!

    conmankiller:

You will have to repay the money to the bank, but you will be allowed to to so at a rate that you can afford and with no interest, as it was a bank official error and you were genuinely expecting a similar amount from a relative, therefore you have done nothing wrong.

Offer to repay at an amount that you can easily afford, I am sure they would be happy with that arrangement, it's better than their only other alternative of having to take court action, then being left with egg on their face, when the court orders you to repay it at say, only £1 a week for example depending on your circumstances.

I would tell them you can only afford £1 a month....grrr hate banks

I have no problems paying back the money.

But surely I can dictate the terms? Eg monthly basis according to how much I have.... They can't just make an error and not notice for 6 weeks then expect me to pay that back in one go?

Just out of interest, when do you expect the money from your relative to be paid in? I don't think you have a leg to stand on to be honest.

Re: Bank Error - Assistance needed

    That's correct.

When the money went in I just figured a family member had transfered them early. I didn't know the exact amount that was going in.

So basically - bank transfered money into account by mistake - I spent.... now they're asking for it back.

Re: Bank Error - Assistance needed

Just to clarify this - you opened the accounta nd you were expecting funds to come in.  These funds arrived, but now the bank are saying tha they weren't the funds you were expecting, but a transfer from someone completely unrelated to you?

    Do I have that right?

    Bank Error - Assistance needed

    Hello all.

Was wondering if I could have some assistance on the problem below.

Recently I opened an ISA Savings Account with a trasfer of of X amount to start things off. However shortly after there was a second transfer of £2500 into the account.

Currently at the moment I am relocating cities and joining uni. I am expecting money from a family member of around that amount (dependant on how much the shares are sold for) to me paid into that account.

So the weeks went on and I transfered part of it into my current account to pay for my deposit on my flat ect ect. Now I spent just shy of 700 and left the rest there to support me while being in uni.

6 and a half weeks after the transfer I receive a letter from the bank stating that there was an error and a 3rd party transfered money into my account. They removed the remaining balance and now wish to receive the outstanding £675.

As this was no my fault - completely bank error - and they took so long to notice the error, what are my options?

If anyone could assist, that would be great.

    Many thanks.
