    Re: Bad credit history

    Hi Sharmaine,

Started with just a cashcard acc then applied some months later for a flex account but not one with a debit card just direct debit facility. start basic and prove you can run ,a basic account, ask to see someone and explain your situation ask their advice, i found them very helpful. Also found Barclays very good they offer a basic account with a debit card.

Good luck hope it all goes well for you.

if you only need a bank account to pay money into and pay bills out of , have you thought about one of those prepaid cards? you can load up your money onto them and then use them like a bank card anyway

    Re: Bad credit history

were you given your account numbers and what not? thjats awful on natwests part!!!

I had a CCJ about 5 yrs ago from severn trent water, but i paid within thirty days although ive never applied for it to be removed as that costs a tenner which i think is a rip off!!

Ive just opened a lloyds tsb account, with a visa debit card and £250 overdraft. It got referred in branch and i expected to get declined and it didnt!

i have an appointment there today to open a seperate student account. Ive been very impressed so far with the service. UK only call centres, transferred me through to branch to ask about an appointment, and a proper landline number to ring not an 08 number. very happy indeed!

    Re: Bad credit history

The same thing happened to me with Natwest they were 'thrilled' to tell me i had been accepted for a current account, told me i was going to have a £100 overdraft, even asked me if i required a left handed cheque book! Waited a few days, recieved my welcome pack but also recieved a letter telling me that they wont be opening an account for afterall. Why on earth do they have to do that? Its so infuriating :(

    Re: Bad credit history

Hi i just wanted to say there is a bank account run through the royal bank of scotland and it is called think banking! You have to pay £7.50 per month and they give you an a account and a b account and they basically keep all your money in your A account for your bills and let you spend your B account so that you cannot go overdrawn, although if for some reason a DD bounces they do not charge you for this. There is also a debt management company that runs through this called Gregory Pennington which is good. You get a normal debit card which is a maestro but no overdrat or cheque book but your card can be used anywhere!! So good way to get your credit up without a bad account!

    Hi Fran

Just saw your comment as I searched google for bank accounts for those of us with less than perfect credit rating. Do you mind me asking what year your got your smile account, as things are getting harder due to the economic climate.

I really need a new account.

    Many Thanks.

    Re: Bad credit history

The company Mentioned before that charged £99.00 for a gold card account is a rip off, for starteds the Gold Visa card is a Cash Plus Prepay Mastercard that you can buy youself from them direct for £9.99 and as for the bank account Natwest are pritty easy going about accounts but beware of there bank charges.

    Re: Bad credit history

    Hey Fuzzy

It's really tough. I have a CCJ which although satisfied is still languishing on my credit report, it's been like five years now !!

My circumstances have really changed, I am out of debt and my salary it much much better, but with the CCJ on file I am finding it really difficult to rebuild my credit rating. For now, all I really want is to be able to have a bank account with a visa debit card. I don't even want an overdraft or anything like that, but I am aware that unsuccessful searches on my credit file do not help.

I have my basic cash card/direct debit account with Nationwide that I have had for a few years now, I really want and need a debit card facility but I alas.... Let me know how you get on.... and good luck... you are not alone....

    Cx
