    Re: Average daily consumption

I live in a 3 bed semi - with new gas combi boiler - similar useage - I should imagine (except no dishwasher or tumble drier or baby !!) - our combined power (dual fuel - Scottish power) is DD £37.50 per month (even with the recent rises) - so .....

I suggest that you ask your new suppliers to check the meter as a matter of urgency.

Not had a meter check since I came off Economy 7 and went to single rate in May of 2007. To be honest, I don't think Southern Electric were too interested since I'm in the process of leaving them. I do intend to take monthly meter readings with my new supplier, Eon, and will keep a personal record of them to work out my daily usage over a month. It just seems too high when work colleagues are paying roughly £50 a month when SE wanted me to pay £85. Fortunately I was £130 in credit with my gas (DD of £35pm) which I transfered over to pay the electric.

    Re: Average daily consumption

I would have said about average useage - 18 units per day whilst quite high, given what you state - is not unreasonable and should cost you around £3.00 per day

    - have you had a meter check recently ?

    Average daily consumption

2 months ago I submitted a reading (electricity) to my supplier, at the same time I enquired as to the balance of my account, which was £43 in credit. I then received a bill last week stating that I now owe them £199. During this period I made a total of £140 in electric payments, meaning in the space of over 2 months I had used £382 worth of electricity. I obviously queried this but was given the reply to monitor my usage over a 4 day period. It appears my usage is approximately 18 units per day which is average for a household such as mine. I live with my wife and 22 month old son in a 3 bedroom semi. We use a gas hob and gas central heating from a condenser boiler therefore no immersion. Energy saving bulbs throughout, dishwasher used twice a week at the most, washing machine used no more than 3 times a week, tumble drier as little as possible (maybe 3 times a month). We've even got into the habit of turning everything off at the mains and not left on in standby mode. We don't have the lights on when the tv is on etc and the fridge and freezer are energy efficient A class. In general we're trying to use as little as possible. Therefore is my usage average?

    regards

    Richard

ps I am in the process of switching and capping because of the billing process I am under
