    Appreciate your comments.

I agree that cashback offers, especially made over the telephone can be misleading/misheard. Best advice is to order over the net, print out the offer page (basket) which identifies the cashback amount, print the redemption policy AND READ IT and then do all you can to meet the terms required....

I will have forum news early next week which will outline our position and also provide guidance and more importantly FEEDBACK by retailer generated by you, the forum users, who are after all the experts in terms of cashback claims!

    regards

Re: Are Stuart Glendinning and Richard Mason vetting mobile phone offers?

Thanks for your reply Rob, Had a problem myself with the carphone warehouse doing the same thing, From my experince the companys involved can give whatever mark up or cash back as they see fit, Due to this i suppose it wouldnt be possible to list them as an offer ie mrs jones came in with an old nokia 1100 as a trade in to take out a £35 per month contract could be given £150 cash back but £75 would go as deposit The other remainder would be lost on accessiories and they would only recive the deposit back after 6months of good account activity. whereas mrs jones heard the words cash back and would still be waiting for it! another example a Mr Loud could come in with no trade in good credit history take out a £20 12 month contract and recive £50 cashback within weeks. Its because of this fluctuation and vairiable cashback offer that makes it unclassified, Basicly the people who sell the phones are on a commission based earnings and can do basicly what they want. I have been in contact with traiding standards and the CEO carphone warhouse and jobs have been lost because of this. The person i replied to incinuated that your companny recived this commission and i did not belive it to be true so i thopught i would put pen to paper sort of thing, I hope i have not offended anyone there. Keep up the good work

Re: Are Stuart Glendinning and Richard Mason vetting mobile phone offers?

    I appreciate your support DRS

You are correct in some ways, however as a company (and from my point of view) it is imperative that we only list companies which are reputable as we have a brand to protect. For this reason it is my responsibility to make sure those who list with us currently, and those who request to join our listings, have positive feedback from customers in terms of their service AND CASHBACK.

I have already taken the step of removing four companies from our listings over the past few months due to issues raised in our forums and across other forum sites.

It is our responsibility to ensure that those companies who are listed are reputable and pay the majority of cashbacks due to customers. There will always be issues with these retailers as there are terms and conditions for any offer and it is ultimately the customer who must make sure they follow those terms.....

My position is simple - if you follow the terms stipulated when you take out the contract YOU SHOULD BE PAID YOUR CASHBACK.

Re: Are Stuart Glendinning and Richard Mason vetting mobile phone offers?

THE MONEY SUPERMARKET ARE AN INDEPENDANT COMPANY IN WHICH PEOPLE PAY A SUBSCRIPTION TO ADVERTISE. AT THE END OF THE DAY IT IS DOWN TO YOU AS A CUSTOMER TO CHOOSE WHAT OFFER YOU REQUIRE. IF YOU HAVE NOT RECIVED THE SERVICES REQUESTED FROM THAT COMPANY ITS TOTALLY INDEPENDANT OF THE MONEY SUPERMARKET AND YOUR DUE TO TAKE IT UP WITH THE SERVICE PROVIDER. AS WITH MANY CASHBACK OFFERS IT IS DOWN TO YOU AS A CUSTOMER TO RUN YOUR ACCOUNT PROPERLY,AS YOU MAY LOOSE THE CASHBACK OFFER IF IN ARREAS. ANOTHER POINT IS THE CASHBACK CAN BE SWALLOWED BY ACCESSIORIES ESPECIALLY MOBILE PHONES WHERE CASES, MEMORY CARDS AND HEADSETS COST A BOMB AND MAY COME FROM THAT BALLENCE. MONEY SUPERMARKET DOES NOT ISSUE CONTRACTS OR GIVE CASHBACK BUT MEERLY ADVISES YOU THE CUSTOMER ON WHAT OFFERS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE TIME OF PRINT. AGAIN I REPEAT NEVER AT ANY TIME TO THE MONEY SUPERMARKET RECIVE COMMISION FOR PEOPLE TAKING OUT OFFERS, THE SERVICE PROVIDERS PAY A ONE OFF FEE FOR THE ADVERTISMENT ONLY

    Re: Mobile Communications rip off

I have still only ever recieved 1 of my 3 cashbacks despite 28 phone calls, 8 registered post letters and inumerable hoops to jump through. Now the phone lines do not even work and the websites are down. I would strongly advise anyone not to sign up with this company who do not even reply to letters, emails, or phone calls, and charge for texts (9 this month) confirming cashbacks which fail to materialise. Does anyone know what is gpoing on, and can anyone advise if it is worth going through A SMALL CLAIMS COURT.

I think that this is actually what makes this site quite unique.  Moneysupermarket are obviously in business to make money; that goes without saying.  But they allow pretty much free speech on these forums and do not automatically delete anything that comes up negative for the products that they want and need to sell.

    Moderation must be a nightmare!!

Re: Are Stuart Glendinning and Richard Mason vetting mobile phone offers?

Thanks for your feedback....and I completely agree with your view. Larger retailers will always be more likely to,

    a) pay

    b) help when things go wrong

That is why we only list large national retailers or well known brands with an image to protect

    thanks again for your comments

    Hi Rob

Thanks for your swift and comprehensive reply

It does put me at ease that you vett all the suppliers that are recommended.

    I
was not actually concerned about 'cashback' per se but more the
miss-use of the system by some suppliers. My personal decision is to
stick to well established and/or big companies that provide these
offers as, in my opinion, they are more likely to be reliable.

    Thanks again

Re: Are Stuart Glendinning and Richard Mason vetting mobile phone offers?

    Mark

    Thank you for your post.

I understand your concern regarding cashback offers and the general negativity within the market. Unfortunately the mobile market remains entrenched in cashback deals, and there remains a huge appetite out there for such deals. We are attempting to develop a non cashback section within our site, but unfortunately, this did not work within the trial which was run at the start of April. Other than buying direct from the network, every other avenue of sale within independent retailers includes some form of cashback or a free gift via redemption. We have built in functionality within our search filters to remove cashback deals - however, over 90% of our customers do not use this function - in other words they are actively seeking cashback deals, despite the negative press surrounding them.

Moneysupermarket HAVE to offer these deals as part of a full comparison of the market and it is then up to the customer whether to progress with the purchase.

I personally manage the relationship with all of our mobile providers and they are under strict notice that any retailer who has unjustifiable levels of customer dissatisfaction (either through our own forums or in the wider press) will be removed immediately from our listings.

All communications from moneysupermarket via Rate Alert are vetted in advance and discussed at a senior level prior to sign off. In this case it was deemed that the two offers listed were so strong that we had a duty to inform our customers.

We also work extremely closely with our retailers in order to raise concerns via our forums, specific to individual cases and assist in the remedy of these issues where possible. All of our valued customers who choose to take up the offers listed within our site have the added comfort of direct access to myself, at any time, in order to assist with any aspect of service or value.....

Whilst I understand and appreciate your comment, I have to point out that we carefully select our partners and ongoing monitoring is in place - if we solely focused on revenue generation there would be far mor than the 12 national providers listed on our site, compared to in excess of 1000 individual, independent online mobile phone retailers who are desparate to be listed by ourselves.

    regards

Are Stuart Glendinning and Richard Mason vetting mobile phone offers?

    Hi all

I'm new to this forum but have been a subscriber of 'Moneysupermarket for some time.

     What
I amconcerned about is the obvious recommendation in an email sent
today from Moneysupermarket to check out two 'fantastic' deals on
    mobiles from Coolnewmobile.

In this forum I've noticed several
threads where people are nmot getting their cashback. It is very common
for mobile companies to set up offer 'fantastic' deals with cashback
only to dissappear after having fleeced enough customers to make it
worth their while. Then they simple set up another company and do the
    same thing again.

I have first hand experience having been fleeced from 'Mymobile' who dissappeared a few months ago.

    If
Stuart and Richard are giving out 'recommendations' from which they are
earning an affiliate commission which I know can be upto £50 per sale
are they checking out the integrity of the companies they are
recommending. Stuart and Richard have a large database of subscribers.
Are they lookikng out for them or for themselves.?

If Stuart or Richard read this I'll appreciate a response.

    Regards
