You said A&L gave you an account with an overdraft facility when you were 16.There is no way you can get a credit facility before you are 18.How was that possible?

I agree, A&L recently accepted me for a Premier Direct current account with a Visa debit card and cheque book and I currently have 3 CCJs (as far as i know). I have been turned down by so many places I've lost count. It's also worth a note that I'm currently a HE student and I couldn't even get accepted for a student account with all the big banks but A&L helped me out! I am just waiting on the £100 bonus promised to me as I switched from my existing bank.

Re: Alliance & Leicester.....Best bank for bad Credit.

Ive been with the Halifax for almost 18 years and have been stupid with money and missed payments etc so my credit rating has been lets say poor.

Now I earn in excess of 50k a year and have asked them to upgrade my account from there basic current account without success even though I pay my wages in there and make regular payments of about £500 to my credit card which I only owe now around 2k now (its a halifax credit card). I also have a Vanquis card with a £500 limit which I clear every month as I use it for work expenses so would like some to upgrade if possible but they keep refusing.

I have decided to try the A and L Premier Account so fingers crossed they accept me. If not I think I might have to wait a few more months and try again.

Re: Alliance & Leicester.....Best bank for bad Credit.

Hi purevibes, I have recently received a CCJ and have a very poor credit rating! However I have signed up for a Yorkshire Ready cash account witch is one of only few basic accounts that issues you with a Dual-Function Maestro Debit Card which you can use to draw cash from ATM’s make purchases on-line or in high street shops and they don’t credit score you which is another bonus! Also they include internet & telephone banking FOC.

The down side to the account is you have no access to an overdraft or a cheque book, but I have to say, from my own experience this account is fantastic if you are in a financially sticky situation.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Alliance & Leicester.....Best bank for bad Credit.

Hi everyone, just wanted to chime in with my two cents...

I have been really stupid and been duped in the past which ended up with alot of debt in my name which wasnt mine (long story) anyway, its been at least 4 years since i even tried to get a bank account, so i decided to try and get one for myself for my salary and student finance to be paid into, i applied online with Smile who accepted me and just wanted some documentation sending through about uni which i prepped and sent this morning. Then lunchtime i got a message telling me thanks, but no thanks. So i called them to enquire as to why. They said i had passed the credit check, but failed on the internal fraud (!) checks. Which is worrying, he told me that a previous account had been flagged, well i know ive never had a thing through smile or the co-op that i know of, only one application for a basic account about 2 years ago which got declined. The chappy told me that it could have been the previous application, that i got declined they decided to pull the plug. How very unfair?!

So all fired up i decided to say stuff them, went to Lloyds TSB and applied for a bank account with them, it got referred but she came back and told me id been accepted, for any account i wanted basically! with a £250 overdraft, visa debit card and cheque book.

Marvellous! There is hope out there guys x

Re: Alliance & Leicester.....Best bank for bad Credit.

Great news Alliance and Leicester came back to me and I am now a Premier Account holder with all its benefits and £100 richer. Just filled out all the paperwork and sending it back so I can get all my DDs and salary and stuff switched over.

I am really happy now as I have an account which is workable and beneficial for me and for the first time in a long time feel slightly loved by a bank even if there motives are to make money off me.

As said in my previous post my credit rating is not great at all so If anyone is in a similar postion give A and L a go.

I also joined Experian credit report and it was chilling reading but they are helping me get it on track and have been really helpful and given some good advice as I have moved around alot over the years so it is a nightmare remebering all my address and time there which is knackering me up a little as various applications on my credit report have got conflicting times at a certain address which looks really bad and just purely out of bad organsisation which got me into this mess in the first place.

For rthe first time in a long time I feel in control again!!!

Re: Alliance & Leicester.....Best bank for bad Credit.

my credit is poor ,havn't been bankrupt or have any ccj's but quite a few defaults and late payments and they refused me,so my advice would be to not bother applying, have been on experian and checked my credit file if you sign up you get a month free ,sign up check your credit file then delete your account before the month is up so you can check your file for free, it will really help as applying and being refused also damages your file (something I didn't know) so after checking my file I have decided not to apply for any credit etc until my file is repaired or better ,hope this has helped and good luck
