Re: Affordable car insurance for a 19 year old? Possible?

Problem is with us apparent young hoolagan drivers we won't respect the cars, and even with the small engine versions the premiums will be higher as the engines are more responsive. As you haven't passed your test and have no no claims bonus or experience the premiums are gonna be high for at tleat a year or 2, when your 21 they'll drop considerably. Best thing to do is aim down the scale a little bit with a slightly older car, slightly smaller engine, I mean i know that C2's n newer fiestas look really nice, and they are very nice cars to drive (believe me) but the cost of insurance is going to be that high mainly because the car is still worth alot of money. If there's an incident with your car involved (which because of all the young driver stuff etc) it'll mean a higher premium.

2 things to do, aim for a smaller engined, slightly older, cheaper vehicle, and take pass plus straight after your test, and find an insurer who recognises that pass plus and the premium will drop about 10% sometimes more.

Someone recently advised on this forum that they arranged a 'pay as you go' policy with ecar insurance, that was alot cheaper. You would need to contact them to find out details of this type of policy. Insurers charge high premiums due to statistics. There are alot of expensive claims made, when younger drivers, have a car full of friends, often late at night and then get involved in serious accidents.

Affordable car insurance for a 19 year old? Possible?

    Hi

I've not passed my test yet...but hopefully will be doing in the near future.

I've been looking at 04-55 reg Citroen C2s and the same aged fiesta/corsa (something small and affordable), but i seem to have hit a brick wall when i came to check out insurance prices...I came to find that my LOWEST insurance quote at fully comp was £2.5k which i find is utterly senseless.

I am aware of the statistics for lads my age, and therefore i could understand a high insurance quote, but something around this value is completely unaffordable.

Can someone offer some hints and advice as to how i might get this down?

    Thanks

    Liam
