    Re: Advice Please - Thanks

I just logged in onto PostOffice website and the letter was delivered. I e-mailed Provident again last night asked for them to reply back to my recent emails and to confirmed that if they have received it. But I have not heard anything from them.

So I decided to write another handwritting letter and put the letter in the envelope. Basically I'm going to sellotape this on my front door tomorrow afternoon.

Once again many thanks. I'll let you know what happen.

    Nat

    Update!

Right - The agent came round this morning, it took me surprise. As she said she was coming at 5pm. Anyway I gave her another written-hand letter to cancelled my agreement of the £800 loan. She was nice actually and didn't pressure me at all in to accepting it. And that was it.

Alternatively like huckster suggests; do what he does with his Milkman and window cleaners when the bill is due ...sellotape a notice to the door saying your not in. He's also renowned for using that ploy on the poor kids when the Xmas carol singers are about ....or trick or treat night comes around.!

    : -- ) LOL

I seal the letterbox to stop any bills, charity envelopes/bags, Christmas cards from the paper boy ( you only hear from them at Christmas, when they ask for a tip) being posted and if I see any carol singers, double glazing/energy saleman, johova's, morons or any passing doorstep conmen or women (lets not be sexist), I just pretend I am not in. I don't even go down the pub on Children in need night, just in case someone shows me a collection bucket.

The last time I answered the door by mistake, there was a young lad looking eager to make a sale. I spotted his Scottish Power name badge. Before he could get a word out. I laughed ' Scottish Power', I have heard they are rubbish', shutting the door to a startled onlooker, who quickly moved on shaking his head. I think I can spot a saleman or conman/woman at about 20 yards.

So you are not that far wrong. Must be my posts giving the right impression.

    :--) LOL

    Huckster

I am terrible. When I was a teenager I was always touring the neighbourhood knocking on doors, asking for sponsorship for some charity walk or event I was doing, even if I didn't know them. Mind you that was a long time ago, when people could leave their doors unlocked and window opens, if when they popped to the shops. How times have changed.

    Re: Advice Please - Thanks

Nat - Send them another email asking for them to return your recent email, confirming that they have received and accepted your cancellation notice.... within the 10 day cooling off period.

Failing that; even if they did turn up with the money on Friday (unlikely), it would still be only the 5th day of your cooling off period since you signed the agreement last Monday 14th.

Therefore if they do turn up... simply hand the representative a pre-prepared handwritten dated notice, saying you wish to cancel the agreement, do not accept the money and do not sign anything else that they ask you to sign.

Alternatively like huckster suggests; do what he does with his Milkman and window cleaners when the bill is due ...sellotape a notice to the door saying your not in. He's also renowned for using that ploy on the poor kids when the Xmas carol singers are about ....or trick or treat night comes around.!

    Re: Advice Please - Thanks

    Deafnat80,

If you've kept the receipt slip the post office gave you on sending the letter recorded delivery it has a serial number on it and both the post office website and telephone number. You could put your mind at rest by logging in or ringing then inputting your reference number on the receipt you were given. It will then confirm the date and time the recorded letter arrived. Note it just in case.

Furthermore you have kept the copies of the cancellation e mail(s) ? I know I'm not there and can't feel what you're feeling but try not to worry you have done the correct action. Tip for the future! The local council offices or library may have a photocopier and will make you a copy for a few pence well worth it!

    Meanwhile Huckster information is sound

    Regards,

    Paul

    Huckster - Thanks for replying.

If I don't heard anything from Provident, the only option is to write a little note saying I have cancelled the loan and basically don't answer the door. Hopefully the agent will get the message. I'm bit worried that I have got no paperworks on me, will that go against me? As I understand I have the right within 10 days to cancelled a credit agreement/Loan.

    Deafnat80:

You could always print out ( or write) a note saying "provident please be aware that I have cancelled, sending two e-mails and a letter by recorded delivery to (enter their address). Then sellotape this to the front door, just in case the local agent turns up on Friday. Don't answer the door just in case the agent is a bit fed up losing the commision and not being told by this provident. The agents I understand are self employed on commision only.

    Re: Advice Please - Thanks

Just to say, I send off the letter yesterday morning by Recorded Delivery. So they should received the letter today, but I couldn't able to photocopy the letter, as the machine was down. I have e-mailed them twice but I have not heard anything yet.

I was wondering what will happen next? Will they contacted me through e-mail or home address? what if the agent turn on Friday with the paperswork and cash? What shall I say? Thanks

    Re: Advice Please - Thanks

Last one from me for tonight Deafnat80

Conmankiller is spot on as ever and always offers sound and correct advice. I can only reassure you that your actions are the right thing so do your letter and get some sleep, report back in if there are any concerns there's always someone round to help. But with these actions done and you seeking advice from the citizens advice bureau the problem is hopefully sorted.

    Good night!

    Paul

    Re: Advice Please - Thanks

I think I will write that letter tonight (I am going to photocopy my letter - to keep a copy of the letter for proof) and will post it by recorded delivery in the morning. Thank you for your time replying back once again.

    Re: Advice Please - Thanks

Nat -- Print off a copy of the email cancellation if possible, if not then write a simple dated letter saying you wish to cancel the agreement.

Either post it by recorded delivery ...or get a trusted friend to post it by recorded delivery. After that the loan is legally terminated and you have no further obligation whatsoever. This will help avoid any possible misunderstanding that you have legally cancelled the agreement within your 10 day cooling off period... as prescribed by law.

Nat - To address your other concern about struggling with money.... remember you're not alone by a long shot at this moment in time.

However, borrowing your way out of debt can serve to put you further into debt in the majority of cases making the problem worse, it is with this consideration in mind that I strongly recommend you speak to the CAB below, initially have a chat and see if there is some help or advice available that you may have overlooked. ?

    Re: Advice Please - Thanks

Thank once again, Conmankiller. It's comforting that there is "cooling off periods" It has been playing on my mind this evening and I feel like a bit of an idiot, I'll not let them pressure me.

    Re: Advice Please - Thanks

Thank you for replying back to me. Much appreicate.

No, I did not received any paperworks after I signed it. It was quick. The agent ( Woman) said she would come back this Friday with the papers and the cash this Friday. Like I said in my last post, she caught me in a bad time with my son. I don't know what to do, at the moment I am stuggling with money. But I decided not to take out the loan now, I contacted them through on their website this evening. I'm hoping they will response back tomorrow or the next. If I have not heard anything by tomorrow afternoon, I'll probably have to tell a member of family to contact them.

    Regards,

    Nat

    Re: Advice Please - Thanks

Nat - As Paul correctly states above for your protection ....Cooling off periods are applicable for a loan agreement signed at your home.... also known as a cancellation period, under the Consumer Credit Act, 1995, you have the right within 10 days to reconsider a credit agreement (loan or credit card offer) and refuse in writing the agreement on offer without obligation.

The email you have already sent to cancel the loan serves as your cancellation in writing. This agreement ended there and then, do not let them pressure you into accepting otherwise. !
