    Re: Advice on Tax

No, it's OK, I understood the question.

The only dependants the UK Inland Revenue recognises are children; those children who live with the taxpayer in this country, at least. Beyond that there is no provision in the UK for tax relief contingent upon the number of dependents one might have.

    Sorry.

sorry, i guess to rephrase the question,

can the tax office recognize my parent as my dependent on this case/ or will there be a significant change in my tax as single with a dependent?

    Hi there.

I doubt you would get flamed for your question, but, I am afraid, I am not aware of you being able to offset medical expenses of any kind, even for yourself, againt your tax bill.

Sorry not to be more helpful.

    Advice on Tax

Hi, this is open to anyone who can give me any helpful insight.

I am single and currently on full time employment and has been for 7 years since I first landed a job here in the UK. I do not have any dependents in this country.

My dad has retired last year from work due to a terminal illness (he is 61). Since then I have been the main source of financial support for his cancer treatments as health care which is not free in my country (He is not and has never been in the UK) Also, as he is no longer employed, been sending £ to cover monthly bills (mainly water/electric/food/phone). unfortunately his retirement pay didn't last long due to expensive medical expenses.

Will this be of any consideration for my taxes? Will the tax office recognize a parent as my main dependent on this case?

And before I get flame mails/responses, no I will not be claiming public funds but just want to know where I stand on tax reductions since I am currently classed as a single tax payer with no dependents. However since my dad retired I have become the main source of income (in a nutshell) for his medical and daily bills.

Other info: have other siblings but they are all married and have children as their dependents. (they are not in the UK)
