Re: 400% price rise on my bill, is this legal, can anybody help?

    Easy,

I have looked into this matter for you and there may be two possibilities you may want to consider.

Firstly, as you are reading your meter on a regular basis i assume that you are aware of your average consumption. If you have investigated into possible new appliances in your household and/or heating times have been extended due to the cold weather but found that there should be no increase in consumption, then it is important that you contact your supplier to investigate the possibility that your energy supply may be being used by someone else. This is very rare but it is still a possibility.

Secondly, it may be due to a direct debit reassessment by your supplier. By this I mean that if your DD was set-up to be £20 p/week but your consumption is actually more than this, then an arrears would have built up over time. This new DD would be to recoup the arrears and also to help reflect your actual consumption. Suppliers carry out reassessments on a regular basis (normally every 6-months). If it is a DD reassessment, then I would advise that you contact the billing department on 0845 600 5122.

I hope this is of some help and should you need any more assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.

    Easy,

I'm going to look in to this for you and hopefully find out what the possible reasons are for this sudden increase.

Could you let me know the following details so that i can get an accurate explanation for you.

What tariff are you currently on?
What is your consumption in kwh?
How do you currently pay your bills?
How much is your avergae weekly/monthly/quarterly bill? Before and After

The more information you can provide me the better.

This is an interesting post and we would like to help find an answer for you.

We have not heard of anything like this before but would strongly advise that you get in touch with your supplier and ask them to look into it for you.

Which supplier are you currently with?

Re: 400% price rise on my bill, is this legal, can anybody help?

    Hello,

I pay by direct debit gas and electricity.

I take my meter readings every tuesday...for the last 18 months !

I usually had 120-150 units ( £15-20) per week for electricity. 4 People living in the house, all out from 9 to 5. Gas central heating.
Since September, I noticed a SHARP rise and my reading give me a consumption of 220-350 !!!! per week !!! (Which I beleive is now £40 per week !!! )
I since then investigate if any new device had been used...I even unplug a freezer for the last 2 weeks to hopefully see a change but in vain !!!.

How can this be possible !!!!?????
I live in front of big redevelopment site. Is it possible that someone is using my electricity ????

    Thanks

    Regards

    E.

400% price rise on my bill, is this legal, can anybody help?

    Hi,

My combined gas and electricity bill has rose from £27 per month to £120 per month, also this rise took place back in March but Powergen has not informed me untill now, therefore I am now in over £500 debt. I have given my readings and according to the lady I spoke to on the phone, this price rise is correct, however I live in a two bedroom terrace and the usage is extremly low as the house is empty unitl 6 o'clock every day! Has anybody experienced such a large rise and does anybody know if this is legal or if there is anything that I can do about it?

    Thanks
