3 USB Mobile modem with no reception & 18 month contract!

I bought one of these 3 USB mobile modems where you pay £10 a month and get tied into an 18 month contract. I have moved 3 times in the 9 months that I have had it and have never had any reception (despite what it says on their website that I can get it in my area) so therefore I have never been able to use the internet so its a complete waste of money. I have tried to cancel the contract as I am not getting what I signed up for, to be informed that I have coverage so it should be working in my area, which its not and that as I have signed an 18 month contract I basically can do nothing about it and have to wait until the contract ends.

This just seems completely preposterous! Does anyone know how I can get out of this please?

With these contracts, the best way to start them is by ordering over the internet or over the phone so that you are covered by distance selling regulations and can, if reception isn't good, cancel with no penalty within 7 days.

Nine months on, you should write a couple of letters explaining the problem to Three and then, after you've given them a reasonable chance to put things right, cancel the payments by contacting your bank and write another letter stating what you've done and why. If they later come chasing you for more money, you simply show a copy of the letters, explain that the problem was never sorted out and, if necessary, say that you would be happy for the matter to be put before a magistrate for him/her to decide if you should pay.

You are a long long way from being the first to have problems with Three's coverage.

Dont do the above or it will affect your credit file, instead go along three's complaints procedure. Doing the above will put you in breach and they will report this

All contracts have two sides. Three have not been fulfilling their side of things for 9 months while LauraBoy has been making the payments. Yes, an effort should be made to sort things out by contacting Three, as suggested in both the above posts but, if this doesn't produce a result, the choice will be either to continue making paying every month and receiving nothing in return or stopping payments.

You should not let someone rob you because you are scared about what they might write about you in a file. Anyone who is bothered about what it says in these credit files can apply to have false or misleading entries corrected - you can even add a note to the file yourself to explain what has happened. No genuine business is going to be too concerned if you stopped paying for a service that you didn't get for 9 months.
