    17 years male just passed

I have recently just passed my driving test and i am looking for the most cost effective way to insure my veichle which is a vauxhall corsa 1 litre group 1 insurance. I have got quoted £1515 for third party fire and theft which i simply cannot afford and therfore considering my mother insuring the car and me becomming a second driver. My mother has 10 years no claims bonus with her current car, but i am unsure if this can be also used for a second car as this affects the quote considerbaly. Can anyone please help?

If you are the main driver, you MUST insure the vehicle in your own name otherwise you may find that your policy would be invalid. You can only have a no claims bonus on one vehicle, so if your mother already owns her own car, she cannot use her NCB on another vehicle unless she sells the one she currently owns.

Regrettably, any male driver below the age of 25 is considered a VERY high risk and as such you need to prove yourself for the foreseeable future.

You may need to try a pay-as-you-drive policy for the time being.

    SHARK!

If you are too poor to run a car then you take a bus or walk. Being poor is not an excuse for committing insurance fraud.

Adam - congratulations on passing your driving test!

My daughter is 18 and just about to take her test but we put her on her father's car insurance with Tesco as all the time she is on their she is building up her no claims bonus (I think Direct Line do it as well). I think if your Mother insures the car as her second vehicle that her no claims are not taken into account but it maybe cheaper that way, also you could build up your no claims as well.

Sorry don't know about the legalities, let me know how you get on as I am going to do the same for my daugher.

PS Shiverkitten .. that's a bit harsh as we don't know his circumstances. My daughter is a brittle asthmatic and sometimes cannot walk 20m but I can take her to college in the car and she can still attend.

Try Quinn Direct, I recently insured my 17 year old son for a 1.0 l Corsa, and the cost was about £600 TPFT. Far cheaper than any other insurer, but unfortunately not included on moneysupermarket

yea your f***** no only jokin most insurance companies will except the no claims bonus as it does not matter if it is used on another car because you still have the bonus don't accept quotes on any one who does not accept it they are just over charging you.

Be very careful as to who actually drives the vehicle for the majority. The building up of no claims bonus can only be used with Tesco, so although it appears like a good offer but it really isn't in the long run (another thread on this somewhere!)

What an interesting insight into the premium discount known as No Claims Bonuses !
