£9.99 demand wrongly issued by aol

Recieve a letter the other day threatending debt recovery and legal action for a mistaken £9,99 bill aol had left me owing.

i cancelled my direct with them 3 months ago and notified them as soon as my last payment went out that i was cancelling my dial up service which had no contract tied to it whatsoever and no notice period.

Rang aol up immediately and it seems they only cancelled the account 7 days ago for some reason,i advised of my notification and cancellation of direct debit.

Because it was such a small sum they wrote it off but i reckon they would have tried court action had the bill been higher.

Another reason never to use these shysters ever again.

We had the same drop through our door last week. Ours was for £17.99, we cancelled ours via phone call and email 3 months ago after having loads of problems and changing to a 3 in 1 package with Sky. My husband phoned them up to discuss the matter with them and found out that they didn't act until 4 days after our communications with them which took us into the next billing period, therefore, we owed the money and had to pay regardless.

We won't go back to them if they paid us and we had been with them for 9 years, their service just deteriorated over the years.
