Another possibility is to put some into Premium Bonds. The returns aren't great, but you usually get a steady flow of tax-free income, and there's always the chance of a win well above the average. You won't lose the money, either (or, if you do, the whole nation will have gone down the plug-hole!).

You should use the "money" tool at the top to look at notice accounts or six month fixed term bonds. It's worth putting something in an ISA too. You should only use banks and building societies that you know and trust but there is nothing wrong with spreading the investment between a few places.

    £30,000 savings???

    Hi All,

I have inherited £30,000.00 but am not sure where to save it. I currently have it in a Halifax savings account but Im not earning any interest. I will be looking to invest it in property around November but until then I could like to make some kind of interest on it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should save it. Am not great with things like this as am not used to having any savings lol... Hope some one can help.

    Thanks,
